| reply to VINA AL Hi neighbor, I live in Colbert County and have begged for broadband for at least 7 years from ATT, who has no intention of deploying any more DSLAM equipment anytime soon. Charter Cable who serves my location, has no intention of upgrading their service to provide broadband. After 2 years of Wildblue Satellite service (which was pretty crappy), I just signed on to ATT's USB wireless aircard. It's not DSL or cable, but it's decent and it's nice to be mobile. The cost is unfair, seems to me that if ATT won't provide DSL, they should offer this service at a better deal. Best Buy has been offering $100 off of laptops when you sign up for the aircard, plus the aircard is free with 24 mo.contract. Good luck finding broadband. I know how frustrating it is, seems that the world assumes that everyone has broadband access, but Alabama is Waaaaaaay behind! |

| You know, for us WISP, we have found that no matter how large we build out a wireless network, there are always more people just out of your reach. For me, the larger my network grows, the more fuel it takes to cover those areas.
For you guys in Alabama, cut the cord. It sounds like it might be a good idea to put together a Co-op of sorts. Get a bunch of people in your community together and have something put up to get service to everyone. AT&T and cable will not do it. Do it yourselves, and save some money. I would even be interested in helping the Co-op.

| reply to VINA AL hey, i'm a former Russellville resident, i know your pain!
if you've got line of sight to an area with broadband, find someone that will let you get it at their house and beam it to yours.
you might want to check out hyperlinktech, get you a couple high gain antennas and some wrt54GL's with dd-wrt on them |
