Is this the correct config file?

DHCPForce is reporting that my config file is
d10_m_sb5100_speedtier_c01.cm

I'm supposed to have the 8/2, previously 8/768, tier on a SB5101 modem.

I noticed my upload never goes above 137KB/sec, so I asked an online CSR and she told me the modem is provisioned for 8/2.

And I've already been trough one ordeal with my previous modem being provisioned with the wrong config and Comcast telling me I should just get a new one

Because Comcast upgraded everyone from 8/768 to 8/2, then they kept the same file name, and just modified the provisioned rates.

I believe your config file is the correct 8/2 configuration file.

Hmmm... I've seen posts here indicating that this is the way the 8/2 config file looks:

d11_m_ [******] _stpwboost_c01.cm = (8/2) [Name of tier not yet known]

******* [denotes modem model #]

It also looks like this poster has only a DOCSIS 1.0 registration:

d10_m_sb5100_speedtier_c01.cm (as indicated by the bolded text)

what i believe happened was that areas that were upgraded prior to the national rollout got new config files, but for the national rollout they just changed the rates in the existing config files.

Good info plat, that may be correct.. But I'm still wondering about the DOCSIS 1.0 reg..

I'm merely providing information here bud, nothing more..

Are you seeing the effects of their Powerboost feature on your connection ?

It is my understanding that a 1.1 reg. is necessary for it to be able to function..

It all seems confusing now. Back in Nov when my area was upgraded to Blast I was able to view the Config in my modem logs. It was a d11...config file then. Now that the Config files have been blocked from view in the log files I had to use DHCPForce to try and view it. The last time I checked it indicated d10 instead of the d11 I used to have.

I can only glean from that that either Comcast is now using a different Config file(or name) now that they were using for me in November or the DHCPForce data is incorrect. AFAICT nothing has changed with my speeds here. Still getting great Blast speeds(16/2 w/Boost).

Honestly with Comcast I wouldn't know what to trust with their Config file names anymore. I mean can we reliably be certain that the name is accurately reflecting the correct Config info? Especially the DOCSIS info!

i get powerboost but very rarely, even in the middle of the night it's a hit and miss

my upload is still peaking at ~137KB though

The "d10" in the file name is just a named version. It won't cause the modem to register at the CMTS to DOCSIS 1.0. The firmware is what will determine that.

I never thought that it was a "causal" factor..

Would you please elaborate a bit on that

From what I understand, you could replace "d10" with "Charlie" or whatever you want. It's just a naming scheme.

So much for the validity and accuracy of what I've seen posted here in the past as *gospel* then...

If that's the case then the interpretation of the Config names has changed from what it used to be. It used to be d11 meant DOCSIS 1.1 while d10 meant DOCSIS 1.0. Perhaps then we had it wrong all along.

Still begs to question how the DOCSIS fits in to all this. I think we I first went to Blast you and I exchanged a few PMs discussing this very thing. They're gone now so I can't remember all that was discussed.

And you mentioned that the DOCSIS used was set by the modem firmware. I thought the modem firmware just make it compatible with the DOCSIS standard being used by the ISP hardware.

Makes me wonder just what info is in an uploaded Config file from the ISP?

It makes you wonder why the "d10" gets attached to newer config file names. I can imagine someone at Comcast doing a copy/paste when configuring a new file, not realizing to replace the d10 with d11. The config will be correct, but the name would appear to be of course DOCSIS 1.0.

Compatible in the sense that if your modem has DOCSIS 1.0 firmware version, it won't register at the CMTS at DOCSIS 1.1.

This thread and the other one on a similar topic tickled my curiosity to check what config file my modem is getting. I never checked before.

My Arris TM502G with blast (16/2) is getting this file:
d11_v_tm402p_speedtierextreme2_c02.cm

Are modems of the same "family" / manufacturer configured with the same config files usually? Or this could just be a case of copy paste without editing file names!

Edit: What is the letter after the d10 or d11 supposed to denote? Other examples in this thread have an 'm', mine has a 'v'!
