There is a small farmer down the road from me who puts a table next to his fence. Puts some produce on it with a cash jar and price list. Just pull over, get what you want and leave the money.
Nice to see something like that still happening (this is just off Rte 40 between Rte 43 and Middle River road, so it ain't way out in the boonies).

I get in trouble when I stop, always end up w/ baked goods to go w/ the fresh veggies

We actually have a farm truck come out to our work on Friday's. It's great because they have fresh produce and excellent prices.

Mmmm My absolute favorite is to get up early and head for Market Square in Alexandria. 5 AM to 11AM and been doing it since 1753. It can actually be fun to set the alarm to get down there when the sun is coming up over the river.

By the time the overly made up and properly groomed Alexandria yuppies show up the best stuff is gone and you are headed home.

I like it much better than the highly regimented markets in Fairfax with the idiot county employee who reminds people no sales until they ring a bell at 8 AM to open the market.

So you motivated me to head down there today to celebrate the first summer morning. Lot's of goodies, mostly brought up from South Carolina but yummy none the less.

The one in Gaithersburg, MD ought to be dropped. Last year only one farmer showed up. This year it's deserted.

Market Nazis.
Should be noted that the Market Square market, unlike the markets under the purview of Fairfax county, is not held to the "150-mile rule". So, the produce isn't strictly local.

The one thing I am waiting to see is something I always called panhead squash growing up.
Google was yielding nothing, turns out everybody else calls them patty pan

One on the local produce stands in my area should have them soon I hope.

I haven't been to Eastern Market for a while now, but I have seen those offered now and then at the weekedn Farmers Line. Elmer's Produce on 404 in Georgetown DE also has had them.

LOL, I haven't been to the Eastern Market in 25+ years, not since I quit NIH and moved back to Baltimore.
I'm on the Philly side of of the county now, got to be one of the produce stands up here that will have them... If not I'm growing them next year
