New PEGs in NJ

Since the old thread is to old to reply to,
It looks like more PEG channels have been activated for the Westwood CO area.

I noticed a new PEG channel on Ch26 from Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ and Ch32 now has Hillsdale, NJ.

The list of active PEG's on my CO are.

22 PKRG TV - Park Ridge, NJ
24 WCTV - Township of Washington
26 Bergen Community College - Paramus, NJ
28 OPTV - Oradell, NJ
30 Waldwick High School
32 Hillsdale, NJ.

For those south of the CO say in the Rochelle Park area what PEG's are you getting? Do you get the BCC channel on Ch26?

Now that I think about it,
I believe Verizon Man had said in the previous thread that the PEG channels are not mapped by CO.
That would explain why this area has PEG channels from Park Ridge to Oradell.
I think the southern boarder line for this area is Oradell and Paramus cause we don't see any programming from towns south of those two.

Re: New PEGs in NJ

Interesting,

It seems these towns listed here get each others PEG channels,
Emerson, Haworth, New Milford, Oradell, Paramus,River Edge, Hillsdale, Montvale, Old Tappan, Park Ridge, River Vale, Upper Saddle River, Westwood, Woodcliff Lake, Ridgewood, Waldwick, Wyckoff, Twp. of Washington, Midland Park, HoHoKus, and Glen Rock. I'm not sure exactly how these zones are set.

Re: New PEGs in NJ

Yes I'm still getting the ones for my area.

I think the reason you might not be getting any local PEG's yet is Verizon has not installed the mpeg2 encoders at the broadcast locations of your schools and towns yet.

Once the equipment is installed you should get colorbars on those local channels and soon after local programming.

I live in Summit, NJ and currently there are no PEG channels on FiOS TV yet. I volunteer for the public access channel in Summit that is currently only on Comcast and I always ask the station manager and others at the station when will the channel be available for FiOS TV viewers in my town. I was told that the channel would be available sometime in June but now the month is over and all the PEG channels on FiOS TV are still blank. I recently was told that it may not be until the end of the summer before Summit's channel will be available on FiOS TV. Also, Summit is supposed to get 2 new PEG channels - 1 government and 1 educational. There's no telling when those 2 new PEG channels will be up and running on FiOS TV.

The setup for our town's channel was,

Verizon had to run a fiber line from the street to a FIOS ONT box setup in the basement of the town municipal building.

They then ran lines from the ONT in the basement to our control room.
Their MPEG2 encoder was installed in our control room.

The MPEG2 encoder sends it's feed out via IP using an ethernet cable back to the ONT which sends it back to the VHO.

For us it took about 2 days to run the lines, since the building is a bit complex and one more day for them to come back and install the encoder.

26 Bergen Community College - Paramus, NJ
28 OPTV - Oradell, NJ

Re: New PEGs in NJ

Same here, I started getting 35 Caldwell a few weeks ago. Not sure if anything else is missing that I used to get. Not that I care about those channels. I still do not have my local PEG and it wasn't in the letter for the upgraded channels as being a channel offered. When I signed up they said it might take up to a year to get it going. Well it's coming up to a year and the last I checked vz was blaming the town and the town was blaming vz. Typical BS on both ends.

OK, I needed that vent (You prob didn't)

These are the PEG's I currently get where I am at if anyone cares:

22 Park Ridge
24 Westwood
26 BCC
28 Oradell
30 'Color Lines'
32 Hillsdale

compu5020

@verizon.net
I live in South Jersey and I'm getting 2 new PEGs, from places nearby, but I'm still not getting the PEG for my town. (Not that it's really important to me).

Re: New PEGs in NJ

I came from DirecTV and, of course, they weren't available on the satellite system either.

But in this area, historically Comcast ruled and they carried these local channels. When FiOS was negotiated in my township, a very hot topic was would they carry the PEGs. It took a long time (nearly a year) before they were finally carried on FiOS and this was a big issue. Some of the strongest criticism and flack towards granting FiOS approval was caused by their lack of immediate PEGs coverage. (You should have heard it ..."How would we know that school had been cancelled ?!?!?" "How will I know when the next township meeting is ?!??!!") If I look on my local township's web page, it still only lists the Comcast channels. To this day, some local people have been astounded that I'm happy with FiOS because of the trouble this single issue caused.

Very local political hot button.

I'm not sure why this didn't post before, but here is a link on PEG's in NJ, which are covered by the statewide franchise agreement.

There are clear instructions in there for the municipalities to follow. Also notice the fee paid based on gross subscriber revenues is 3.5%, whereas Comcast is about 2% down here. So that's a good deal for the municipality.
