Re: Verizon Channels are Here in Fort Wayne!

No annoyance here, what I've seen is great. In fact, this Friday at 10, on the SCI FI Channel HD (ch. 680) is the season premier of Stargate: Atlantis.

I know it's very difficult to surf the guide without encountering them, but, for now, I look at all the blank channels with the "channel relocated" message as a reminder of the space they have for new channels.

As for bad reception, catching or not , I can't help. But, some of the bugs out there may be fixed by the IMG upgrades rumored for the coming months. The favorites issue will hopefully be addressed soon, as well. Mark F

For those markets that have not yet received the new HD channels, we would be happy with this kind of "annoyance"

I forgot how long they left the vacant channels like that during the last major realignment, it might have been about 2 weeks. It was annoying. You can let all us know when they take them away. As far as the bad reception, you better call it in before it spreads to the rest of us. I hope that doesn't mean a delay like last year's IMG upgrade

When the heck are they going to remove the channels that say "this channel has been relocated" Its made my tv viewing painful the last few days along with the fact that the HD channels are skipping now I am becoming rather dissatisfied with the service. I am thankful for the new channels but I don't think I've been able to watch a show on the History channel once all the way through with out the picture and sound messing up.

On the FIOS website, I entered our zip code and up came our local channel list for Fort Wayne. Some of the channels (HBO, Cinemax, and others) are listed more than once, but it is more accurate than the pdf linked at the bottom of the page. Even if the printout is 18 pages long. Good thing the Photosmart 8250 is a fast printer.

Then, I'll just use that long list for reference when I print out lists with only the channels we want. I have programs like Works, Word Perfect and Office, and one of those should handle that well. Mark F.

I don't mean the listings, such as what it on right now. I mean a list of channels in their proper location.
Well, the Internet/zap2it.com listing includes (or should) the call station and number... You might have to make your own if what you have isn't working.
That's what I do. I have every station typed in Excel and make my own updates. I know pathetic, but I have the most up to date list

I don't mean the listings, such as what it on right now. I mean a list of channels in their proper location. The lists that were sent us in the mail, and the pdfs on the FIOS site, are error-ridden.

I just want a fairly accurate, and readable channel list. If that's not possible, then others will be in the same boat when their area gets the new channels. Mark F

Mark:

Check www.zap2it.com for channel listings. This is what Tivo uses for their lineup's. It is usually very accurate.

RFD T is on ch. 247 here in Fort Wayne. Right now there is something on about understanding the behaviour of, and communicating with, horses.

Anyway, I have been unable to find an accurate channel list to print out. Since I have Verizon FIOS Internet with MSN Premium, I can access MSN TV easily, and it seems to have the correct listings for Fort Wayne. But, no printable channel guide that lists all the channels from 2-1951, with a description of what type of programming each channel offers. The list we got in the mail is incorrect, as is the pdfs on the FIOS website. Mark F.

I'm curious if RFD-TV was really added or not. The press release says it was, but the channel lineup PDF does not. Can anyone confirm its addition?

Dang, I never really thought of that. True it is only a few more dollars! I might just do that!

And my TV does support component. Sometimes it takes someone else to make you realize the obvious.

They call this "the first in a series of channel additions coming this year", but give no other indication of when the 2nd wave of channels will start. "Series" implies more than 2, so it should be before they finish the 1st wave.
According to the channel line up,Are you saying that we may not not have TBS-HD again for this year's baseball play off games .....again!!!! That better not be the case....I'll be TICKED!!!!

Looking at the Verizon pr and the other info, my guess is that the "coming soon" HD channels will be added by July 21. Fort Wayne is the testbed roll-out and Verizon is adding a lot of new QAM channels all at once, so the problem is likely technical, not a contract issue. They have to add the channels to the signal path from the Super Head End to the VHO, add channels to guide data, update the channel map & encryption code data, make sure that the QAM channels & signal paths are working at all the COs in the market, and so on. Get the kinks out in the first market, then roll-out the channel line-up overhaul & HD expansion to the next market.

What would be neat is if someone in Fort Wayne with a QAM tuner (capable of going up to ch 135) could provide a summary of what QAM channels they now have. Just a first cut list of the QAM channels, don't try to list all the sub-channels. However, any QAM channel with only 2 sub-channels is likely to be where two of the HD channels are. Up to now, all of the QAM channels have been in the 55 to 126 range with a number of gaps in that set. Have they moved the local digital SD & HD channels from QAM 71-7x?

Could it be the second wave will be when NY and Oregon get the new lineup (aprx the same time). I dont think they would send a new channel lineup flyer in the mail to a big market like NY and it be wrong....(Or maybe they would.) I just hope they get there act together by then.
I was thinking the same thing...that some channels will go online at the same time (in other words, what is the second wave for Fort Wayne will be included in the NY update). However, I would also say to never think its a sure thing. It will depend how earlier upgrades go, or perhaps it is a contractual holdup.

For example, I am in the Northern NJ area and we benefitted by not being the first to get the IMG...there were so many problems to iron out. Nonetheless, I received a recorded phone call from Verizon last August notifying me that the new IMG would be installed that month. In actually, it took another six months until it was actually installed!!

In the case of new channels, I think it might be a case of contract details more than technology problems. Or perhaps too many members of their upgrade team are on summer vacation.

According to the press release you refer to, at least on the HD end, they state that "Verizon Leads the Way With 15 New HD Channels, More to Come in July", so I would guess that would be the timeframe for the second wave.
Oops, I read that, but forgot it by the end of the article.

Their 15 HD doesn't jive with the 21 people here have been talking about. It is today's press release, but who knows when it was actually written, and certainly doesn't seem to have been fact checked.
