Gap Fire: Santa Ynez Mountains Santa Barbara

New fire start running off the top of the Santa Ynez Mountain range down towards the coast driven by down-slope/off-shore winds.

Glen Annie Canyon and La Patera Canyon are under evacuation orders as this fire races towards the sea.
This is being covered live on KEYT-TV Santa Barbara which is providing great coverage.

On my live scannerfeed I can hear a strike team being formed up on SLO Co. FD Dispatch (154.385)as well as Santa Barbara Co. FD talking on tactics Santa Barbara Co. Channel 2 (153.905).

Evacuations ordered in area north of Goleta

Fire in Santa Barbara County forces evacuation
The Associated Press
Article Launched: 07/01/2008 10:53:18 PM PDT

GOLETA, Calif.—A wildfire in the Los Padres
National Forest has forced authorities to
evacuate residents living in the canyon areas
north of Goleta in Santa Barbara County.

U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Kathy Good says
the fire has burned roughly 50 acres of heavy
brush in the foothills of the Santa Ynez
Mountains. She says winds are pushing the fire
down a slope toward homes in the Glen Annie and La Patera canyons.

Authorities issued a mandatory evacuation for residents in those areas.

Goleta is located about 8 miles northwest of Santa Barbara.

I'm in this area, very close to the fire. We had power outtage from around 7:15ish to around 11:30 last night. The fire was spread across the mountain, and you can see them glowing hard at night.

As of 9:15 they had it at 10% contained. Because of the terrain though I have a feeling it's going to burn for quite a while.

I know the terrain, it's my old stomping ground. It will be a nasty fire to contain for sure. My mom still lives in the area and has had 3 power outages in the last two days.

Although the Gap Fire raged for much of this evening, the early morning hours have seen calmer winds and lower flames. At 3:00 a.m., about 1,000 houses were still under a mandatory evacuation order, which had been in effect since 8:40 p.m. The evacuation covered Painted Cave, Hidden Valley, the Trout Club, West Camino Cielo Road—west of Highway 154, including Kinevan Road and the Haney Tract—and Glen Annie and La Patera Canyons, which have been closed since Wednesday. One resident on Glen Annie Road who opted to ignore the evacuation notice had a huge sign at the end of the driveway reading “Cookies – Drinks for Fire Fighters” posted above a box of Vitamin Water, bottled water, and individually wrapped packets of cookies.
