[FireFox] FFx3 using too much Ram !

Hi,

Since I upgraded from 20014 to 3 FFx is using well above 200Mb after being running for a while with 5 or 6 tabs open and sometimes it reaches 240Mb when the previous ver. 20014 was not even reaching 160 Mb.

I am posting my themes and extensions so maybe someone here can tell if any of them is the culprit(s)

Thanks

I don't use many extentions but I also noticed FF3 eating up alot of memory. Can't wait for 3.1

I've turned off pre-cashing ad it's still hungry.

I really wonder what's actually new about v3.x since it still suffers the "minimize" memory leak...

I too recently tried FF3 and realised it's very much like Nero 8... fat and bloated.

I thought the point of FF was to be lightweight, fast easy on the memory. You know the opposite of IE?

It sort of seems the other way round now.

With 9 tabs open, FF3 is using 151MB and 141MB of VM. Don't remember ever seeing it get above 200MB but then I'm not running with Task Manager open all the time either. Here's my installed stuff for comparison.

Well, I did some experiment and first I browsed with the Safe mode of FFx and it was using NO more than 100Mb with the same number of tabs, so I proceeded to disable the not so important and kept just the vital (for me of course)extensions and I managed to lower the usage from a min of 160 and a max of 240Mb, to 130 and 185Mb aprox, so there was a significant RAM gain from doing this.

Here is the my latest config list:

Are you running any add-ons that you've forced to be compatible? I learned it may not pay off the hard way, after doing that and my usage went over 450MB and 100% cpu.

Yep,

AutoCopy 0.8
Tiny Menu 1.4.9
Menu Editor 1.2.6

But this turned out to be some of the least problematic and when I added those (one at a time)the RAM usage did not climb significantly, but by now, I think that I have achieved a healthy balance between Add-ons and Ram usage for my old Pentiu4 with just one G of RAM without sacrificing FFx usability

There's a Menu Editor II »https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6519 which is based on the original, which had a conflict with DownThemAll. I use it, DTA works now.

That's nothing. I have Fx use 1,000,000K RAM sometimes. That happens on any version. I only have a handful of extensions. It's the number of tabs I have open and tab sessions saved.

How many tabs open at the same time and how many sessions saved?

40-50 tabs and about 200 sessions saved on my host computer. Lesser number of saved sessions (about 100) on the virtual computer with Fx 2.0 and less on the two virtual computers with Fx3 as I haven't had Fx3 long enough to accumulate a lot of saved sessions. I got rid of some of the older sessions a few weeks ago. But it is very tedious to do unless you want to get rid of all saved sessions at the same time. I use TBE on 1.5 and 2 and Tree Style Tab (which is TBE updated for Fx3 along with Multiple Tab Handler) on 3 and Session Manager on 3 (as TBE no longer saves sessions).

TBE author broke up his buggy extension into 2 different ones Tree Style Tab and Multiple Tab Handler. Each separately not being a full equivalent of TBE. When you put them all together and add Session Manager then you get TBE in all its buggy glory.
