Maybe someone should be asking why Google saves info

Aside from the issue of the Court requesting all this info to hand over to Viacom, another issue should be why Google needs to KEEP all this info. They are a greater threat to privacy than the judge in this case and in Viacom who merely wants the data to get Google to fork over money for hosting their movies, TV Shows, etc.

Google makes a lot of money off of copyright infringement. Viacom wants Google to hand over some of those profits. And this is a way of determining how many people are watching their content and not paying for it.

Google likely uses some of the data for their video ranking system among other things.

I would have to agree with Google being a threat to privacy.
And I believe that they are wanting to maintain personal medical records on line??? Do no evil, yeah right.....

They post Copyrighted material on YouTube and then push ads in a lot of the videos or on the sides of the pages. You don't say they don't make any money off it?

That got a laugh out of me, but they probably DO have enough money now to actually buy Viacom

The Problem I have with most official video sources is as follows:

- Sometimes the player will not rewind or fast forward right if you stop a show and want to pick up where you left off later. I'm looking at you, CBS Price is Right Player.

- In early beta players, video is sometimes slow loading...

- The same 20 second add five times in a show is a tad annoying...either cut the add, or show different short ones..

If youtube can upgrade the quality, the companies can use this service to their advantage as well..putting shows on there to gauge the audience for potential DVD sales, for instance. Seeing how many hits an old show gets for a potential revival.

If only the old fogies at studios wouldn't be so scared of technology and see the great potentials it has..

I absolutely agree with this, and I have been saying so for a while now. Everybody seems to have this blind trust in Google that's as strong as the blind hate in Microsoft.

As for the so called push to "Cloud Computing," I'm not excited about my data being housed by a third party which might have to hand it over at some point as part of a lawsuit. This case is an excellent example.

I notice you always bash Google, and defend those who attack them. Why? I strongly suspect much of the information Google keeps on YouTube is required by law--- because of BS copyright provisions that require they do so for their own protection.

Personally, I'm fine with Google being able to tell me what videos I've watched. I'm not fine with that private info being handed out to various third parties for BS reasons.

Really? Google posts copyrighted info? Is that so? I guess all ISP's post copyrighted info then as well?

"Safe Harbor." Guys like you want the ISP's and sites to be the Net Nanny/Jack Booted Thugs Gestapo. I don't. As long as they remove copyrighted works in compliance with the DMCA, they do nothing illegal.

I'd amend that to say: Google's optimal solution is to simply buy Viacom just to shut them down.

Why does all of Viacom deserve to be shut down because they have an overly ambitious legal department?

Though Google buying Viacom and trying to become a media company would probably be rather bad...

remember...most savvy users have AdBlock running, so to us it seems as though websites stopped using ads altogether. Yes, it's that effective.

I do as well. I had to turn it off to get that screen capture in my earlier post.

I guess you can call me a google hater too. I for one hope they lose against Viacom and against the 1billion they're being sued for against "their" contact transfer program.

I said the same thing before I realized I was an idiot for using IE over FireFox 2 years ago.
