Like dadkins often says I pounded the new version over the old one. Till this day no problems (knocking on wood). |

| reply to sherryjk To have a "clean" ZoneAlarm uninstall, you need to uncheck the start with Windows box in ZoneAlarm, reboot and then go to Start, Run and type C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe /clean (There is a space between the exe and the forward slash)
This has always worked very well for me... |

| reply to winchester73 Since you said you installed and uninstalled ZAF after uninstalling ZAP, this is a long shot, but I'll mention it anyway: If ZAP isn't uninstalled correctly, or something goes wrong with the uninstall, it can leave bits of itself on the hard drive and in the Windows startup entries.
Check your running processes for vsmon [the TrueVector Internet Monitor, part of ZA]. If it's there, disable it using msconfig. |

| reply to winchester73 I have a similar problem, but different in the part where I uninstalled zonelab but there were still some entries in register. I tried installing free version and uninstalling but still same problem. Is there something else that needs to be cleaned up? |

1 edit | reply to winchester73 Upgraded ZAF and installed the M$ update on my test PC and all seems fine. Strange though, after selecting to download the update it appears to have installed on its own without any prompt beforehand. Also did not prompt for a restart. Lastly, I can not see the HotFix in the Add/Remove list but Windows Update no longer shows it as a recommended DL so it should be installed. -- Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway.

| reply to winchester73 Not sure what the other issues are some of you are facing; but if you've followed the proceedure:
- move internet security slider on ZA to medium. - download & install the latest version of ZA - move slider back
OR
- remove the Windows update in control panel (add & remove programs) - download & install the latest version of ZA - restore the windows update
the problem will go away. Any other problems are unlikely to be related.
I performed a mix of the above two steps on my XP PCs with ZAF. Worked flawlessly. |

Do I have that right? Thanks! Not quite. It appears ZoneAlarm from versions 6.5.x and higher are affected. I run 6.1.744.001 and I have not had any problems... |

| reply to winchester73 I'm starting to run into some problems now.
I've noticed that for the last couple of days, I've been getting more lag and dropped connections. Now tonight I've been kicked off the Internet entirely (as in can't even get to the router) for up to half an hour at a time. I uninstalled the hotfix again, and that seems to have provided a partial fix, but I'm still seeing traceroutes with random dropped packets and complete disconnections. Also, I cannot at all get to the config page on my router (Linksys WRT45G) and attempting to do so kills my connection. I have to repair my connection from the Network Connections panel to get anything back.
What's going on with this? -- Four gods wait on a windowsill, Where once eight gods did war and will. And if the gods themselves may die, What does that say for you and I? |

| reply to winchester73 FWIW I fixed a customer yesterday who had the remnants of ZA free on their machine. They'd uninstalled it, but it left bits of itself behind. Apparently, vsmon was still installed and loading at startup. I had to boot in safe mode and delete the directory WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ZoneLabs\ . I also took some leftover ZA entries out of msconfig.
This procedure restored the machine's access to the Internet. Before I deleted the directory, it had an IP address, but couldn't ping or trace out [pings returned 'error 65', which means 'access violation']. There wasn't any router installed, but I'll bet I could have pinged it if there were, given how ZA works.
If you don't feel comfortable rooting around in your Windows directories try downloading, installing, then uninstalling the latest ZA free. I haven't tested this solution, but it should fix the problem I described above. |

| reply to winchester73 My WRT54G worked fine two years. After kb951748 it is gone. Even uninstalling the update. I did everything and it did not come back. And it is not dead. Connecting the computer by wire to port 1 on the router is possible to ping and access the router login page. However the computer does not recognize it anymore. This kb951748 and ZA did damages beyond my understanding. Hope you get yours back. Thanks Blao |

I have ZAFree 4.5.538.001 and have been avoiding this update, but did download the latest ZA version in case I needed it. I just installed KB951748 and my internet access is fine. Thank you so much.

| reply to winchester73 I have 3 machines, One connected to the router via CAT5 cable which all I had to do was uninstall the update. A Vista laptop that was not effected. But my wife's computer which connects via a linksys usb wireless adapter will not connect. I uninstalled the update. Installed the new zonealarm update. No luck. Turned zonealarm off. No luck. Any suggestions. I am beginning to believe this is more than a ZoneAlarm problem. Help! |

| reply to Xed said by Xed :
my Linksys router simply will not work again since the KB951748 patch fiasco. Right now I'm inundated with work and will concentrate on that, working on my desktop computer with the working cable modem. If you change the device connected to a cable modem (for instance, insert or remove a router), you must re-boot the cable modem. This has nothing to do with Linksys, or ZoneAlarm, or KB951748. |
