| this thread is obviously a separate issue, but i wanted to mention that i'd like the brush fire threads to be limited somewhat to the number of major fires in the area. i think in this case i see two large fires: 1) the gap fire, and 2) everything else up north. structure fires that involve lead recycling plants would of course be exempted, though maybe all those posts would go in one thread. |

| Yeah, it is tedious having a topic started for every fire that starts. Should be limited to only the fires that are out of control. The big ones. Who cares about an empty lot in Fontana that's burning? -- It's not nice to fool Mother Nature. |

Here is how I determine which fires to post. I get about 30 to 50 EDIS alerts per hour. the great majority of them these past two weeks have been in Northern California.
I usually get a notice via RSS Feed or EDIS emergency posting. If it smoke showing I ignore them. I usually Wait for 3 or 4 more alerts before I post what CDF or a local agency determines has the potential to explode into a major fire.
Good example; just got a LAPD EDIS alert for a two car accident with rollover and 5 major injuries on the 10 freeway. The next two CHP calls on my scanner corrected the incident. I usually Wait for 3 or 4 more alerts before I post what CDF or a local agency determines has the potential to explode into a major fire. You mean like, for instance, the one couple months ago that was in the middle of built up Fontana and had absolutely no chance to spread anywhere? It was truly an empty city lot, and just because that area caught on fire years ago when it was mostly open space doesn't mean that's going to happen in 2008.
That's an example of what I mean. You don't have to report every single fire that starts. You're getting as nutty about the whole "for the good of the public" thing as Kevin the weatherboy is. -- It's not nice to fool Mother Nature. |

| reply to ghostpainter i didn't mean not to post the information.. just not to start a new thread for each one. ideally, it would just be updates in one thread with a link at the bottom of each post that went to a map of some kind, either with that particular fire marked or with all the fires marked. doesn't someone have a google map with all this stuff on it?
frankly, that would be much more helpful. i don't know where have these places are anyway, and haven't a clue if their smoke will reach us, my parents, whoever. i appreciate that you're filtering out some stuff, but what's left is still noise, to me. -- Catapultam habeo. Ironic. There's a Lucky's -- er, Albertson's -- just down the street from us that we still refer to using the old name. Some really old timers around here still think of it as Sage's. --

| reply to TwoFrogs More: quote: After SUPERVALU acquired premier Albertsons retail properties in 2006, SUPERVALU revived the Lucky name to reinforce its commitment to bring communities true neighborhood stores.
There are currently seven Lucky stores in the Las Vegas and Southern California area, each store offering a tailored assortment of great-priced items that are most relevant to its customers.

What this really means is that no company, including Grocery Outlet, has offered enough $$ to Supervalu-Albertson's to buy out the Lucky trademark. |

When I was 5 i started going with my dad who was a truck driver and I remembered where I went. then as a process server court worker, I used a map book by not using the index to find the page, I just flipped to the page of any map book and knew where I wanted to go.
I forget there are a lot of people here from somewhere else who dont know the area.
