[Beginner] New tab in Safari

How can I get Safari to open a new tab and not a new window? I click on a link and rather than opening another tab, it opens a whole new window. It seems there would(should) be a way to automatically do this other than holding down the command key and clicking!

Thanks!

If I remember correctly, tabs are not enabled by defaul. Go to Safari > Preferences and you'll know what to do.

You can also right click the link and choose to open it in a new tab.

I found myself looking for the same thing, there are third party add-ons that will enable this (I forget what they are called and Im sure they werent free) It may sound silly but this is one reason why I find myself sticking with Firefox
