[XP Home] what is common in yahoo.com, myspace.com and microsoft

What does microsoft.com, yahoo.com and myspace.com have in common? I cant access these sites main page for some reason, nor can I download from HP.

I can ping them, I can tracert them. But when I try to open them in IE or Firefox, it just hangs. Its not a broken SSL, because I can access secure sites just fine. Ive tried repairing the connection, reinstalling my DSL software, everything I can think of, I am at wits end. When I called them, they told me to "contact my manufacturer" I am the manufacturer, and they were clueless. Ive tried clearing my cookies, setting everything to default, I know it isn't spyware or a firewall problem, and the host file is empty.

I think its one of my sockets, but I cant remember how to repair them... or maybe corrupt DNS cache? (I dont know how to repair that either)

I can stream video, access site like money.cnn.com, gmail, lots of sites work, but this is frustrating me to no end!!!

Re: [XP Home] what is common in yahoo.com, myspace.com and micro

So far, its only those three sites. AOL works, Ebay and craigslist works. I would think its some kind of cache, except I haven't visited microsoft.com in over a year.

I have tried typing the ip addresses acquired via tracert into my address bar. Works for all sites, except the three mentioned. Just hangs.

DSL provider is Qwest, they are of no help.

What (if any) errors do you have in the Event Viewer?

*Edit-
Btw-- you don't by any chance have entries for these sites in your hosts file, do you?

Also, try flushing the DNS resolver cache:

Start > run > cmd.exe > OK

then, at the command prompt, type:

ipconfig /flushdns

Press "Enter"

After the cache has been flushed exit cmd.exe

thank you all for your help.
Nothing worked...
And then... 2 minutes ago... everything suddenly started working again.

I read there was some Qwest server maintenance, and DNS poisoning issues. This was so weird, it lasted for about 4 days, and then, bam, everything is good again.
