[Vista] Windows Defender scan delta interval

Does anyone know where the setting is in Windows Defender that defines the allowed delta between the time the last scan was performed and now?

The default seems to be 3 days.

Situation: I have a work laptop that I turn on every 2-3 days, and for maybe 20 minutes at most (I read Email, then shut it off). What this results in is Defender nagging me literally every single time I turn on the machine; "You haven't scanned your computer in 3 days".

I'd like to increase the interval to something like 7 days, but I can't find the registry entry that controls such...

Why not schedule a weekly scan or just turn off the real-time protection if the computer is used infrequently. I have three computers that have Defender scheduled for weekly scans and two others with real-time protection turned off. I'm not bothered by nag screens on any of the five machines.

Start > All Programs > Windows Defender > Tools > Options

At the top is your scan schedule options. If you scroll further down the screen you'll see your real-time protection options.

How does a weekly scan solve this problem?

Does changing the duration/regularity of the automatic scan somehow affect the permitted delta range for intervals between scans? Are you sure? If so, I'll just set the duration to whatever the longest permitted is (hopefully 1 month ).

Disabling the real-time protection option is a perfect idea, but you see, that's not possible for me to do. I'd love to give you the details of why it can't be disabled, but I'd be violating company policies/disclosing information -- you see, I work for Microsoft (yes, really). So you'll just have to trust me that disabling Defender isn't possible (and no, it's not a right/administrator issue).
