| That is really great news ... if they are run and priced as they are in the U.S. If "being Canadian" is seen as a license to double their prices and provide less-competitive service that would be pretty sad. But I'm hopeful!
The good folks over at NCIX must be pooping their drawers over this! |

This is Canada, you'll never see US-like pricing or service. Never.
Remember your friends at Amex Canada - their US counterparts give me more benefits, better customer service, more card features etc etc. Same can be said in terms of pricing for Banana Republic Canada vs US, Costco Canada vs US, Ikea Canada vs US etc etc. |

| Why would they want to blow away the competition? I mean, do you see Bell vs Telus vs Rogers try to blow away the competition? Or CIBC/BMO/TDCanadatrust?
I'll keep my fingers crossed, won't hold my breath though. |

| reply to AR The differences with Amex are probably just Amex taking advantage of the fact that Canadian banks are ridiculously uncompetitive. Don't forget amazon.ca vs. amazon.com, but then the book and DVD markets are tightly and rather artificially controlled (why did some newly published books still continue to carry cover prices 50% higher in Canada than the U.S. when the dollar was at parity or even higher than the USD?). But markets for different products are all different. I'm willing to be hopeful about newegg, but we'll see. At best, they'll be a Canadian equivalent of their U.S. operations. Less optimistically, we'll be whining about higher prices way above the exchange rate. Worst possibility: they may not survive here, much like some U.S. expansion failures into Canada. -- "Until he extends his circle of compassion to include all living things, man will not himself find peace" -- Dr. Albert Schweitzer "A dog is like a child who never grows old ... always there to love and be loved" -- Aaron Katcher

That said I wish newegg well in Canada and if I can get an even cheaper laptop then It's great. |

| reply to DKS I think NCIX and Canada Computers will hold their own against newegg.
Personally I'd be more excited if Amazon finally opened up Amazon.ca to the full product selection of Amazon.com. How that would be a game-changer. -- Happy customer of TOROON08CGO | Silentblue.net Canadian DSL Troubleshooting and Why Can't I Get It? FAQs |

| Aw shucks. I've just been busy. I'm still Canadian, don't worry.
Back on topic: I'm seeing newegg being more of a competitor against TigerDirect, Staples and Future Shop. Hard to believe they could undersell distributors like NCIX or the Chinese shops in Toronto's College St. or Pmall. |

As posted upthread, if Amazon.ca goes full product like its U.S. parent, it'll shake up Canadian online retailing like Wal-Mart Canada did with its bricks and mortar stores. If newegg has reasonable shipping, I'm sold. |
