BREAKING: Bell beavers call it quits

This put a smile on my face for some reason, perhaps it's the excessive ads.

Re: BREAKING: Bell beavers call it quits

They didn't call it quits. They're management. They got canned.

Did you know that when a beaver feels threatened it will chew off it's own testicles and leave them as an offering for a predator while it escapes ?

Thats Bell !

So Frank and Gordon are considered "management"?

As I posted on another thread, here are some suggestions for dealing with Frank and Gordon: Beaver Recipes
quote:
Beaver is a fine textured red meat. Fat deposits are found outside or between muscles, much like venison. While the meat will not dry out while cooking as fast as venison it will dry out faster than most lean cuts of beef. Unlike venison, the fat is not as likely to become rancid. Removal is however recommended, especially deposits inside both the front and rear legs which contain glands. The castor glands are found in the lower abdominal cavity. As with other internal organs, fluids escaping will give the meat an off or bitter flavor. Castor glands should be frozen and sold or given to a trapper who can in turn sell the glands to be used by the perfume industry.

Also unlike deer, beaver needs to be soaked overnight in salt water to remove blood from the meat. Trapped beaver do not have a chance to bleed out.

Cutting up a dressed beaver requires special attention to bone structure or most meat will end up on soup bones. Meat tends to cut easier when it contains some ice crystals. Most of the best meat on the beaver will be found on the hams and along the back bone. The larger muscles attest to the powerful back legs and tail. The tender loin or back strap found along both sides of the top of the back is wider at the shoulders and tapers to a point near the hams. The tender loin is found inside the body cavity at about the middle of and to either side of the back. Steaks are difficult to cut from the ham area. Most meat will be chunks or strips. The flanks, between ribs and the hams, are often strong tasting either by nature or contamination by body fluids.

I'm sure the Linux community will appreciate the penguins. How about Micro$oft's Clippy for a new mascot? Isn't he still looking for a job?

Well it is about time!

These guys were well known for marketing unlimited magical internet access that clearly does not (and never did) exist.

Perhaps Bell should choose a more adequate spokesperson/symbol that better represents their strategy.

Is Hitler available?

If not, maybe they can borrow the Pythonesque Hilter?

Just picture uniquely moustached man at podium yelling charismatically to crowd of Canadians, telling them what their internet will be....

Re: BREAKING: Bell beavers call it quits

The beavers were a great marketing device. But they went overboard. (consider the energizer bunny, of of the greatest devices ever, and it has lasted far longer).

The beavers lasted at least 4 years. It started with olympic coverage. Not that bad when you think about it.

The first commercial was the best. Two beavers interviewing for the job. One of them says "it isn't as if they can afford a real actor like Norm MacDonald". (norm macdonald does at least one of the 2 voices in english).

(norm macdonald, in case you didn'T know, is a montrealer who played in saturday night live, including doing the newscast for quite some time).

Yes, you were.

Over here on the east coast, we had to endure advertising everywhere!
- one FULL page in ANY newspaper *every* day,
- one FULL page in any magazines (weekly or monthly),
- postal advertisings, with or without your address on it,
- metro stations, whole metro wagons, ads inside and outside autobus,
- radio advertising, all stations,
- TV advertising, anytime of the day and evening,
- for Quebec market, the exact same bell ad plays at 10:00 sharp at the same time on the 3 major TV channels (SRC, TVA, TQS) before the news which had to start 30 seconds later (at 10:00:30),
- For Montreal, the Molson Center is now called the Bell Center (where hockey team "Canadiens" plays),
- Any major outside event, like the Festival de Jazz de Montréal, was sponsored by the beavers...

You see, it came fast to a point of advertising pollution strangling can't stand it no more.

But.... I must say that the beavers in French were more watchable then in English.

Re: BREAKING: Bell beavers call it quits

I have found out why the beavers are going.

Michel Sabia, as part of his golden parachute contract, had stipulated that he would be supplied with 4 beaver pelts to be made into a fur coat. This is in line with canadian history where initially, beaver pelts were considered currency when trading with the indians.

It is not known how the 2 english pelts and 2 french pelts will be mixed when making the coat, and not known whether the coat maker will have the presence of mind to insert electronic playback system to play norm macdonal's voice (as frank or gordon) over and over when Sabia wears the coat
