| Re: BREAKING: Bell beavers call it quits The beavers were a great marketing device. But they went overboard. (consider the energizer bunny, of of the greatest devices ever, and it has lasted far longer).
The beavers lasted at least 4 years. It started with olympic coverage. Not that bad when you think about it.
The first commercial was the best. Two beavers interviewing for the job. One of them says "it isn't as if they can afford a real actor like Norm MacDonald". (norm macdonald does at least one of the 2 voices in english).
(norm macdonald, in case you didn'T know, is a montrealer who played in saturday night live, including doing the newscast for quite some time).

Over here on the east coast, we had to endure advertising everywhere! - one FULL page in ANY newspaper *every* day, - one FULL page in any magazines (weekly or monthly), - postal advertisings, with or without your address on it, - metro stations, whole metro wagons, ads inside and outside autobus, - radio advertising, all stations, - TV advertising, anytime of the day and evening, - for Quebec market, the exact same bell ad plays at 10:00 sharp at the same time on the 3 major TV channels (SRC, TVA, TQS) before the news which had to start 30 seconds later (at 10:00:30), - For Montreal, the Molson Center is now called the Bell Center (where hockey team "Canadiens" plays), - Any major outside event, like the Festival de Jazz de Montréal, was sponsored by the beavers...
You see, it came fast to a point of advertising pollution strangling can't stand it no more. -- "I unofficially declare Beaver Hunting Season is on!" (© DR_JAYMAHDI)

| Re: BREAKING: Bell beavers call it quits I have found out why the beavers are going.
Michel Sabia, as part of his golden parachute contract, had stipulated that he would be supplied with 4 beaver pelts to be made into a fur coat. This is in line with canadian history where initially, beaver pelts were considered currency when trading with the indians.
It is not known how the 2 english pelts and 2 french pelts will be mixed when making the coat, and not known whether the coat maker will have the presence of mind to insert electronic playback system to play norm macdonal's voice (as frank or gordon) over and over when Sabia wears the coat
