Re: [iPhone] 2.0.1 is Out!

Downloading now...Thanks!

Edit: Update went smoothly - no issues thus far.

Edit again: everything seems to be much more responsive/faster on my touch - a noticeable difference!

Updating now.... i really hope this fixes the bugs.

Edit:
Went smooth, and seems to be much quicker already.

Sync took 2 minutes with 2.0.1.. 35+ mins before it. That's one improvement I'm seeing so far.

Nice to know it's working for someone. I can't even get it installed yet as I'm on hour 8 (!) of my iPhone's "backup". Sure hope one of the bug fixes is for this goddamn problem. Anytime I want to sync my phone it takes FOREVER.

Installed... First impressions things are smoother, keypad doesn't lag, scrolling the app pages is very quick, sync/backup is quicker... will see if it fixes the safari crashes.

So far, Safari is much more robust than it was before. Looks like Apple released a significant fix!

Time will tell, but things look good so far

'Bug Fixes', this is the kind of stuff that pushes me straight to open source where they have nothing to hide.

Re: [iPhone] 2.0.1 is Out!

Ridiculous argument, even in open source they don't document everything and I for one don't care about doing a diff in a pointless attempt to figure out what was fixed. An upgrade either works or it doesn't, and I've been burned by Apple, Microsoft *and* open-source when it comes to upgrades. I'd really love to see complete release notes but it has never given me a 2nd thought to run to open-source. To each their own.

Since there are no acknowledged issues by Apple, nor any release notes for the upgrade, exactly how do you determine if this upgrade "works or it doesn't"? LOL

Fine. It's still annoying though that Apple is trying to hide the bugs rather then just being upfront.

Bugs? The iPhone has no bugs, just undocumented features.

Sure just like the Debian developers hid the SSL bug back in Sept 2006.

I really detest release notes absent of content however in my experience they aren't always accurate and you need to install to determine if something has been fixed, and thats true of Linux, Windows and Mac.

Re: [iPhone] 2.0.1 is Out!

My wife didn't notice any problems. I had a few app episodes (power down and power on) and a few pregnant pauses, otherwise 2.0 has been fine for us.

Just found out about it.. friend IMed me about it. I was shocked. Me usually being the guy who's a feed/blog addict, on something like this, I was actually behind.. I hadn't been reading up in recent hours. Oh well. I'm downloading as we speak. I'm very pleased to hear, universally, I might add, about the speed improvements. Everywhere I look I see the word "snappy" being used. Very nice! It's going to be interesting to see what else people dig up in this update.. given the terse description by Apple, consisting only of "bug fixes", there may not be much more to expect than bug fixes, but then that's all I was hoping for anyway

There's a reason 2.1 is in the pipe, after all.

2.0.1 does not fix the slow texting issue. Updated. Went to send a text and it immediately got stuck in that super slow mode.

The ipod touch has different firmware that's why. Betting it's in the pipeline to be released too.

Edit: My fast response was a bit fast as some have the update. Hm, then it's Apple's servers "again" that are acting funny. Who would have thought?

I hit the "install" button at some point last night.. I just checked: the backup is still in progress. Ridiculous. Granted, I do have what has come to feel like a metric ton of apps installed, but still. HOURS? Anyway, the backup's still going but at least the progress bar is almost full...

Took about 35 minutes total to do the backup and install (Jeez) - but working fine. Thanks for the heads up!

Installed on my Touch. One nice thing is that I did not have to re-sync since I am not at my computer that has my iTunes library.

Another thing it seemed to fix was a "phantom" app I had downloaded. I went to download the Cube Runner update, and by mistake tried updating twice. So it was trying to install the app twice. Once it was updated, it only showed one button. I have two full pages of icons on my Touch, but I could flip to the third page which showed nothing. When I came out of an app. the Cube Runner icon would show on the third page briefly then dissappear. Now thankfully that is fixed.

It seems like almost everyone has backups that are taking hours to complete, looking at this forum, as well as macRumors. What's interesting is that my backups have never taken more than 2-3 minutes, and I have ~100 contacts, 100s of emails, 100s of calendar items, and about 15 applications. I wonder what the difference is?
