| [iPhone] iPhone GPS apps gripe
It would be one thing if all GPS apps were free but, that's not the case at all. So my gripe is about the wildly inaccurate GPS feature of the iPhone. None of the apps that are either free or fee are at all useful because of the lack of accuracy. Point being, using four different apps, all fee based, none was able to give accurate headings, altitude, or speed.
As an example on a recent hike I was walking 387 MPH and reached an altitude of 1842ft with a heading of West. All the while walking into the rising sun in New Jersey!
Now who do I talk to about getting my money back for the bogus apps and false advert?

However I think GPS fixes will be out, eventually to make it suck a little less. I do agree with you though. GPS feature was poorly done. |

Both vary greatly in accuracy, eventually showing close enough speed if driving at a constant speed. Nowhere as close as the speedometers in a dedicated GPS system though, those are bang on from what I've seen.

Maybe for a dedicated GPS NAV app like from TeleNav or TomTom, they will give those devs special access to the raw GPS data, who knows...

| I've noticed that the included GPS/ Maps app is far better than any of the free or fee based so, I think it is either Apple keeping quiet about all the info needed to implement an accurate GPS app or, the coders are hacking it up..
FYI - What good is a GPS app if the calculated accuracy is 3786 ft!! Yes, that's what the app gpsCompass just gave me here with clear blue skies. Useless as teets on a bull. |
