Thanks Nick, and everyone for posting your results. I finally updated XPHome. I got 9 updates and everything seems fine.

Installed all the XP ones, except for the fact that I now can't restore from ANY of my previous System restore points, I guess it's working!

Well things have been going too well I suppose. First time I've seen a hitch in Microsoft Update(MU). Here it is Thursday and the latest updates haven't downloaded. So I looked at the log and found it littered with phrases like
"Update...(blah blah blah) is "Priority" regulated and can NOT download", "Update is not allowed to download due to regulation" and "DnldMgr Regulation: {7971F918-A847-4430-9279-4A52D1EFE18D}"
I've done nothing to my system in a long time. This is the first time MU refused to handle the automatic update routine. I'm always amused at how you can mind your own business, not tinker with your system and not even wander much beyond the borders of DSLreports. Yet one day you look for something that has been working since forever and suddenly you're left to unravel the mystery. So I marched right over to the MU site. After two tries (non specific error on first attempt that page couldn't be loaded), I was able to bring up the MU web page and get my updates manually. Things that make you go hmmm....

Have laptop with Vista SP1 Basic and PC with Vista SP1 Premium. Both stuck after today's updates at stage 3 Configuring updates (16% and 14%). Had to safeboot followed by normal reboot. Worked....updates history indicate installed 8/12 updates.

I had a prompt to download and install 11 updates through
Automatic Updates, but for some weird reason, it did not do
anything when I told it to download them.

I ended up having to go to Windows Update and get them.

Fortunately, I have a backup made daily. That's also something to do, but checking before even downloading anything from people here is the A-1 thing to do as well.

I hear you.
That's why my motto is always make a fresh backup image of my system before installing a bunch of Security Updates.
Yep nothing like a good backup to restore if MS Updates bugger up your system.

Thanks,Nick and guys. Even before I got notification of these updates, I decided to check to see if there were any. Sure enough! Of course, the first thing I've done is hop right over here to make sure there's nothing untoward before I go ahead and download. Never, ever, go ahead and do anything silly when one doesn't have to, is my mottto.
