[IE] Google search history?

Click for full size
good google
Click for full size
bad google
I'm having an odd problem with the search history when I open IE6 on my google.com homepage.

Normally when I open IE6 it goes to google.com and I can either double click the search box or start to type a recent search and the box will display a normal dropdown list of recent typed searches.
This is shown in the first picture "good google".

Now however when I open IE6 and start to type a search word in the google search box I'm presented with the info shown in the 2md pic "bad google". Plus double clicking in the search box no longer opens my search history.

This is driving me crazy.
I have found that clearing either the cookies or temp files fixes the problem for a bit. I'm not sure which fixes it though as I cleared both before I realized it was fixed.
After many malware scans with known good dependable scanners showed no problems I decided to reformat and do a clean install of XP Pro. As soon as the install was done I went and did all updates as well as installed my SAVCE AV.
As soon as I opened google, I had the same problem! IE6 had not been used for anything except the Windows Update site.
Clearing the temp and/or cookies again fixed the problem for now but it seems to come back at a later time.

Anyone have any suggestions? Is it maybe something to do with google analytics or something?

Thanks for any help!

I do not see a problem it is just suggested keywords.

Unstable version 2.23.6 released.
This release includes a new google module that will display search results from google as you type. In addition, you can now configure the entry width in preferences when the stick-to-panel UI is used.

.etc

I believe what you are seeing is the ever-changing google feature set.

I'd much rather see my search history as I typed it rather than what google thinks I may want to see .
Say I type in a complicated search and see something interesting but have not had the chance to look for whatever reason, then I accidentally close the browser.
Well, I can hope I remember exactly what I typed in order to see the exact same set of results or if things are working correctly, my search string will show up as a history item and I'm good to go.

Not that big of a deal but I do prefer it to show my typed search history as I think that is the most useful.

How did you come about this tidbit of info on google versions? Do you have a link available?
I tried searching but I could not figure out how to word a search string that worked well explaining my problem!

edit: I did some more searching and now find that what I'm seeing is something google started a few years back called "google Suggest". So from your message it looks like they may be adding it permanently or on by default
Hopefully they will give an option to urn it off.
