Yes! It's driving me crazy!!! I did a system restore and that stupid .bin thing still shows up. Uninstalled the AVG, cleanedup all the files pertaining to AVG that I could, rebooted, and then reinstalled the AVG software again. STILL having that .bin problem. I'm unprotected as far as the software is concerned.
HELP!!!!!
Found this:

on the freeforum.avg.com site...something about the Manager being corrupted and there is no fix as yet (they're working on it)...but all should be still protected from previous updates.
I just re-installed the software...my defs are at 1533...so am I still protected?

Yes, same issue.
Apparently there is an issue with one of the update files, specifically "u7iavi1616oo.bin", as such AVG has pulled the file from public download. AVG is aware of the issue and is working to correct the matter.

Reinstalling will not resolve the issue - just wait a day and try updated tomorrow.

LadyL, you are missing about one months worth of updates. The full install (Windows: 8.0.138) was put up back on July 4th.

Found this solution on the yahoo answers forum from member intc_escapee and it worked for me:

1) go to »www.grisoft.com/ww.download-update
2) make a directory on your desktop called AVG
3) download AVI: 270.6.4
4) download IAVI: / 1616
5) move the dowloaded files to the directory you made called AVG
6) launch AVG
7) select tools -> update from directory
8) select the directory called AVG where you put the downloads

That's it. Should be fixed.

I know that I'm 1 month behind...that's because I had uninstalled my updated - to the last updated defs - but since the .bin was screwedup (AVG's fault, not mine) when I downloaded the software again, naturally I would only have the defs that came with the software.
I will try the fix that is posted further down.

... or you can manually download file u7iavi161581.bin from server akamai.avg.com and run manual update from within AVG Anti-Virus FE under Tools, Update from directory, and then pointing to above .bin file that you just downloaded. Or you can download same via MajorGeeks.com
However, if you have automatic update running to guru.avg.com/softw/80free/update, then the .bin file missing error will reappear until AVG stores that update (.bin) file on the server.

Seems like everyone using AVG is affected. I installed Avast! Antivirus and ran a scan which uncovered a corrupt .dll file. (avgcorex.dll) The path was: "Documents & Settings\all users\application data\avg8\update\backup\avgcorex.dll". Avast listed it as a Trojan! My O/S is Win 2K-Pro.

Let me know if you find the same, and if so please post for others.

Sorry, but have no idea what you are talking about. I have no idea where Documents and Settings, etc. are located at. I'm using Vista Basic. Can't find anything like that.

Seems the file »free.grisoft.com/softw/80free/up···16oo.bin is the missing file ... server does not seem to be "there" alot or at least the file can't be found during update.
Again, updating from directory rather than automatically seems to best choice at present.
.

Chris
