| Re: Avg says .bin missing when updating I know that I'm 1 month behind...that's because I had uninstalled my updated - to the last updated defs - but since the .bin was screwedup (AVG's fault, not mine) when I downloaded the software again, naturally I would only have the defs that came with the software. I will try the fix that is posted further down. -- Lonnie | |

| Re: Avg says .bin missing when updating Seems like everyone using AVG is affected. I installed Avast! Antivirus and ran a scan which uncovered a corrupt .dll file. (avgcorex.dll) The path was: "Documents & Settings\all users\application data\avg8\update\backup\avgcorex.dll". Avast listed it as a Trojan! My O/S is Win 2K-Pro.
Let me know if you find the same, and if so please post for others.

| Found this solution on the yahoo answers forum from member intc_escapee and it worked for me:
1) go to »www.grisoft.com/ww.download-update 2) make a directory on your desktop called AVG 3) download AVI: 270.6.4 4) download IAVI: / 1616 5) move the dowloaded files to the directory you made called AVG 6) launch AVG 7) select tools -> update from directory 8) select the directory called AVG where you put the downloads
That's it. Should be fixed.

| ... or you can manually download file u7iavi161581.bin from server akamai.avg.com and run manual update from within AVG Anti-Virus FE under Tools, Update from directory, and then pointing to above .bin file that you just downloaded. Or you can download same via MajorGeeks.com However, if you have automatic update running to guru.avg.com/softw/80free/update, then the .bin file missing error will reappear until AVG stores that update (.bin) file on the server.

| thank you...you are an angel!!! This has been driving me crazy. I had antivirus 08 crap popping up all over the place. Installed into my toolbar. Nightmare! I had to pay 49.95 because it said I had 40 trojan horses, spyware, adware corrupting my computer. The balloons kept popping up. I uninstalled antivirus o8, but it was still on toolbar. Avg was working fine. spyzooka took care of it. However today, my avg was all screwed up. I uninstalled, ran spyzooka scan, then tried to reinstall. no luck But when i tried uninstalling avg free then reinstall "a. bin is missing" kept coming up.
you saved my ass....i am keeping my fingers crossed.

| It means put the 2 files you downloaded into a new folder on your desktop, name that folder AVG. Click tools from menu on AVG interface, see where it says download from directory, click that, you will see a list from desktop, double click the AVG folder in that list, update and you are done.
If I can do it, a 3 month old baby can do it.

To me a folder and a directory are 2 different things; had he said folder I would have been finished 40 minutes ago. But thanks for info; you still knew what you were talking about. Was it Naylar, something like that - not dissing you; i'm sure you meant folder......tee hee!

@smartbro.net | if you download the file in AVG it solved the problem but the problem came back once you try to update your avg thru avg software itself.
|
| divajz
@verizon.net | Re: Avg says .bin missing when updating I think everyone here DID update the software through AVG after downloading the files? Is there another way? No problem for me so far. We'll see what tomoror brings.

@smartbro.net
| Currently the update for AVG Free v8 is corrupted... you will have to wait for AVG Technologies to address the issue with the update.
The updates that your AVG currently have will still provide the protection it is setup to detect. In otherwords, not being able to get this update will not make your AVG Free ineffective and as soon as AVG Tech resolves the issue you will be able to update to the current virus definitions at that time.
The main problem is the AVG update program. So for the meantime if you want your AVG to be updated you need to update it manually and download the update manually. Until the AVG tech resolved this kind of issue
