I just updated again today and it worked great. Looks like they figured out a way to fix it through an update.

Whatever you do don't uninstall and then reinstall AVG as several have suggested. The new install won't work and you will be completely unprotected because you will have lost all the previous updates that you downloaded.
If you have uninstalled, quickly look for another free Anti-virus to install while AVG clears up the problem.

AVG know about this problem if you go on their forum. There was a problem with their download with missing A.bin. However the last update I did today the problem has been fixed

thank you...you are an angel!!!
This has been driving me crazy. I had antivirus 08 crap popping up all over the place. Installed into my toolbar. Nightmare! I had to pay 49.95 because it said I had 40 trojan horses, spyware, adware corrupting my computer. The balloons kept popping up. I uninstalled antivirus o8, but it was still on toolbar. Avg was working fine. spyzooka took care of it. However today, my avg was all screwed up. I uninstalled, ran spyzooka scan, then tried to reinstall. no luck But when i tried uninstalling avg free then reinstall "a. bin is missing" kept coming up.

you saved my ass....i am keeping my fingers crossed.

BEWARE ANTIVIRUS 08.

I have a question. Do I need to keep the AVG folder on my desktop now that the program is working properly ?
No, it's no longer needed
