1 edit | Antivirus XP 2008 has its digital certificate revoked
One of the more notorious rogue security programs, Antivirus XP 2008, was using digitally signed certificates to make unsuspecting victims think they were legitimate.
That is until today, when GlobalSign revoked their digital certificate: »www.theregister.co.uk/2008/08/16···malware/
This isn't the first time that malware has used digital certificates to gain users trust. 180 Solutions (now Zango) used a certificate signed by Verisign for their Search Assistant's ActiveX install. -- "The trouble with computers, of course, is that they are very sophisticated idiots." - Doctor Who (from Robot)

| Thanks for the info Doc, quite a valid point, and a concern for the future. Why there wasn't more research done before the cert was given out? I am not trying to be disrespectful to Globalsign, but is/will be a concern I belive as time progresses. How do you deal with this? Glad at least they did revoke it though. -- The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing - Edmund Burke |
