@rr.com | [TWC] 15/2 speed tier in SoCal yet??? I was just wondering if anyone in the SoCal area has a 15/2 RR Turbo connection. Does anybody know if a 15/2 upgrade will be available to the rest of SoCal any time soon?

And since they just introduced PowerBoost, and they got their engineers fixing up old Adelphia networks just to be able to offer 12 more HD channels.... I wouldn't bank on anything happening this year.
Next year. Maybe. | |

| Re: [TWC] 15/2 speed tier in SoCal yet??? said by jochumr :Maartena ... I have been seeing 15-20/1 for the past week in the Orange, CA area ... it was 10/1 That is due to a new gimmick called "powerboost", which pretty much renders your speedtests unusable. Try a sustained download, e.g. the 450 Mb Vista SP1 from microsoft.com, and you will see it will start off very fast, but withing 30 seconds it will stay steady at around 1150 to 1250 kbyte/s, which is the maximum speed of a 10/1 connection. | |

Thaks for the insight, I figured that's what it was, just couldn't find any info or explanation for the jump. -- RoadRunner,XP/Vista and my "Linky network"

You know, your complaints are actually starting to get a little retarded.... You are invoking the "boy cries wolf" scenario here, pretty soon no one is going to believe you.
Why are you staying with TWC for television anyways? Put a dish on your roof, they have the socalled better HD not?

| It seems the only areas that get 15/2 are those areas that have the options to drop TW and get FiOS. So basically, by the time an area gets 15/2 from TW, it will be useless because we'll just move on to FiOS anyway. TW has the resources to do the upgrading now, they are just an awful company like every other cable company that basically profits of those that either don't have any other option (monopoly) or those that have other options but are too ignorant to realize there are better alternatives out there (Same people that still use Internet Explorer, AOL, etc.) So Time Warner is basically banking on dummies... | |

| Re: [TWC] 15/2 speed tier in SoCal yet??? Based on the article on the main page today "Time Warner upgrades to be Surgical", it sounds like only a select few of us will get the 15/2. If FIOS doesn't move into our areas, TW doesn't care to upgrade their infrastructure for us either.
I totally agree with GuyInLA, it sucks to pay the same amount for 10/1 as others are paying for 15/2.

| Well I got some info too on Orange, CA from someone here on the forum..... but because for some obscure reason, as if they were company-secrets, and releasing the information to the public would be disastrous.... I won't give a name.
I do want to say though that it is strange that this kind of information is kept from the users. It is not like it is a trade secret, and actually confirming that speeds are going to be increased may even prevent customers from walking away. -- Obama 2008 - Because McCain is more of the same!

| Re: [TWC] 15/2 speed tier in SoCal yet??? Then they need to schedule smarter. For instance, schedule the speed increase for September 16th, but tell the customers speed will be increased September 30th.
Now if you can't quite get it done on the 16th, but still deliver on the 23d, you will still have happy customers.
I know there are also providers that sell "5 Mbps down, 384 up" internet, but have their modems provisioned for 6/512. This way, you will rarely hear a complaint about speed (as 85% of the provisioned speed is still more then the advertised speed), and if there IS a complaint, it is most likely a VALID one. -- Obama 2008 - Because McCain is more of the same!

| Lol... UPC, the cable ISP of Amsterdam and much of the Netherlands, serving a few million customers.... has announced today that they will be introducing two DOCSIS 3.0 based subscriptions:
60 Mb down, 6 up for 50 Euros ($70) 120 Mb down, 10 up for 85 Euros ($110)
No caps.
These two tiers will be introduced in Amsterdam first later this month, and the rest of the UPC territory will follow later this year and next year.
UPC's area in Holland is comparable to the L.A. area. UPC is a provider in about 10 EU countries or so, and have roughly 30% of the Dutch market.
And wer'e struggling to get something as simple as 15/2.... while the current fastest plan in the Dutch UPC territory is 24 Mbit/s down, 4 Mbit/s up. For less then 40 euros.
There are experts that say that the 20th Century was America's "Golden Age", and that the 21st Century will belong to either China or Europe. They way we are treating bandwidth in the U.S., and the market moving more and more to the Internet..... They may be right. -- Obama 2008 - Because McCain is more of the same!
