I was 15/2 since December. My modem rebooted this morning and now I am down to 15/1. So they are changing the modem configs, because mine changed. |

On that basis, it appears that best you'll get is 10 down/1 up from Time Warner, although someone above claims that their 15/2 "Turbo" service is now in Studio City. AT&T have a service called uVerse which offers a max download of 18, but it doesn't appear to have been deployed in that area as yet. TWC seems to selectively upgrade 15/2 (sometimes 15/1) into areas with U-verse also. Honestly with all the indian giving/teasing going on with speeds lately its hard to keep track. -- AT&T U-Hearse Your funeral. Delivered.

| reply to SoCalResident1 I am relocating from the UK, where I currently get 50mbts service from Virgin Media. As I work from home I need high speed internet to perform the tasks that I need workwise. Can anyone tell me what is the fastest broadband speeds I can get in the Studio City area and from whom? |

I think I'll just order the (20/20)alone for like US$64.99/m with first month free since I'm still using the Verzion phone service from day one anyway... (Like past 10 years?)
it's all good as long as Fios's finally available here ...that's all I care really~~~
thanks for the input though~(I'll call to find out the details later today)

| reply to SoCalResident1 To be fair, I spent a long time grilling her on the details and at no point was she ever pushy or "offering" the typical propaganda; just answering my very specific questions (a good 45 minutes' worth).
If anything, the biggest selling point for me was the fact that it's all month-to-month with 30 days to get your money back. She went on to suggest what I was already thinking -- that I KEEP my AT&T/DirecTV packages for the first month and see if I actually like TWC better -- if not, no harm no foul, right? She then mentioned that her friends did the same thing, stuck w/TWC for their internet, but went back to DirecTV for television. That's an awfully soft sales pitch for such a big evil empire, and one of the nicest reps I've ever spoken with at a telecom company.
If there's anyone out there that wants to convince me that $50/mo for top tier TWC isn't better than the $35/mo I'm paying for the lousy (500kbps DL) AT&T DSL service I'm currently getting, then please do so quickly. I'm about to pull the trigger on this baby. |

| reply to Studio City Frankly, I'd take the "guaranteed" speeds thing with a barrel of salt. Did Erin mention what they "guarantee" if they fail to deliver? How is it measured? Can you invoke the "guarantee" by sending them a result from Speedtest.net? Too many unanswered questions. This isn't a go at TW, I doubt if any provider could realistically make that sort of "guarantee". |

@pacbell.net
| reply to jimmy56 Dunno if this means anything to anyone, but I spent a LONG time on the phone today w/Erin at TWC discussing the possibility of moving from AT&T DSL (where the service and speeds have gotten worse since I first joined up w/pacbell 11 years ago -- i.e. 500Kps down/300 up with my static IP).
She informed me that if you subscribe to their top tier program you are GUARANTEED speeds no lower than 10Mbps and up to 15. Tier Two is guaranteed 6Mbps up to 10, and Tier Three is of course 1.5-6. Having said that, she said that this new Turbo in being slowly implemented in my direction (Studio City, CA) having started up in Ventura County, and now as far south as Northridge. She went on to say that it would be to my area in 2-3 months and that then my Top Tier speeds would be GUARANTEED no lower than 15Mbps.
I offer this to create a picture of what vicinities are supposedly now covered in the LA area, as well as to inquire to all those north of Northridge -- Since Turbo arrived in your area, have you EVER had speeds lower than the guaranteed ones mentioned above? |
