| Comcast to carry HD NET, HD NET Movies and HD NET On Demand
Posted at Engadget HD
HDNet, HDNet Movies coming to Comcast Today, September 04, 2008, 9:20:00 PM | Richard Lawler Filed under: HDNet, Cable, New content
Add two stations to Project Infinity, Comcast has -- after several years of battling -- signed up Mark Cuban's HDNet and HDNet Movies, plus a free video on-demand package. Specifics on when the channels should go live in your area weren't noted, only that the cable company plans to increase its carriage of the two networks over the next year. Hopefully Comcast subscribers will get a (non-bandwidth starved) peek at Dan Rather, HDNet Fights, early movie premieres and more before tru2way and switched digital video roll out, but we can't be sure. -- I ain't got time to bleed! |

I think we'll see the On Demand content though. |

| reply to pplchamp1 Awesome!
Finally, Comcast get's Big Ten, then they talk about ESPN-U (still crossing my fingers), and now HDNET!!!
It's a miracle!
Not that my system will see this any time soon, but hopefully they'll grab the HD-VOD content sooner than later.
Surprised! Now let's strike a deal with Boomerang and patspub won't have much to complain about |

parts of the Chicago area still don't have the new HD channels.
how much will they compress them? |

| Those are perfect questions to ask the VP of operations for YOUR area. This isn't satellite, the local chiefs have control. I can't imagine these channels to roll out in a higher priority than some channels already released with higher advertising revenue. Can't wait for it on-demand |

But in Philly they don't see to want to or be able to add HD channels, so I'm not holding my breathe for them anytime soon. |

| reply to pplchamp1 The official press release:
First paragraph says it all:
"HDNet, the leader in high definition programming, today announced a carriage agreement to add HDNet and HDNet Movies to Comcast's strong high definition (HD) programming line up. The agreement enables Comcast, the nation's leading provider of entertainment, information and communications products and services, to provide the two HDNet networks to HD subscribers in many of its systems, including free On Demand programming, in addition to increasing Comcast's carriage of HDNet over the next year."
That means, HDNets available this year in Boston/Chicago and the areas in PA that Comcast Guy is always referring in his postings. My area? Fuggetaboutit..... For crying out loud, we have yet to get A&E, Food and channels that have been widely available in other Comcast systems for over 1 year! Great news is the free On Demand programming, though! -- COMCAST of New Jersey II(Union) - Verizon DSL You want more HD? Then e-mail Rick Germano - Go to Contact Us in the Comcast web site. And don't complain when analogs are removed! Digital isn't the future, it's the present! |

| reply to pplchamp1 you can add pittsburgh to that list of areas that won't get hdnet unfortunately. Comcast probably maxxed out pittsburgh metro with big ten, big ten hd and the 3 overflow channels so now we won't get espnu or hdnet or even boomerang if they agree to carry that. |

| We have HDNet and HDNet Movies on the old Patriot Media System. Comcast did not get rid of these channels like GameHD. However, the channels are in a special $1.99 tier with Wealth HD. The $1.99 covers the carriage cost. I suspect the new deal will put HDnet in digital starter and HDnet in a higher tier similar to Directv.
Hell did not freeze over. Comcast is waking up to the fact that many subs have a choice of four TV providers and Comcast has been losing over 100,000 video subs per quarter not including acquisitions. Competition is great for the consumer. |

1 edit | reply to Travelfan1 said by Travelfan1 :Greg_z, in what package has it been added? Both by themselves in a $7 a la carte pkg - TOTAL rip-off if you ask me.
Also keep in mind - we already had these in Springfield BEFORE CC took over from Insight at the beginning of this year. Most Insight properties already were carrying them, so I presume that all of those systems that cc took over kept them as well. |

join:2008-01-16 Harrisburg, PA | reply to Travelfan1 Judging by the nature of the press release, I would be willing to guess that HDNet channels will be a priority similar to the way ABCFamily and Disney were rolled out. Just a theory, but it seems similar. |
