| stability vs speed, does it work like I think???
Okay my net once upon a time went full speed with no stability issues, not the case anymore...
I usually have 16SNR and 44atten, lately it's been dropping as low as 10 SNR at night, even with 16 I get dropouts that keep me from playing online shooters successfully (losing connection 5-10 seconds)
anyways I get 375KB/s download and 60KB/s upload and have 2 connections (both go same speed)
If I were to get them to ratchet down the speed on one of them from 375 to something like say 150KB/s (possibly on the cheaper monthly plan) would it be more stable and have less connectivity issues???
I do care about speed as I download a lot of tv and movie torrents (from a very fast source... almost unlimited bw available)
but I'm hoping to start playing warhammer online so if slowing one of them down increases my ability to play the game without lag death every 5 min that would be great |

| To a certain extent, yes. Reducing your profile to a lower speed means that less reliable tones will be used less, and so overall stability should be increased.
Another method of improving stability is increasing interleaving depth (although ISPs only tend to give you the choice of none and a bunch with nothing in between), although this typically increases your latency. On Bell (ON/QC), you get 30ms extra latency, but it helps enormously with handling noise/errors on a line.
It's hard to know much without seeing more detailed line stats. |

  hmmmmmm
@videotron.net | reply to mishkin8 why not call your ISP and tell them there is a problem on the line causing noise and disconnections?
Why not tell them you want it addressed? |

| I have many a time and they can't find anything wrong with it, only recently have errors even shown up
I had the line at the exchange, on the poll to the house and around the house all changed too.. my dl speed decreased but my upload speed increased (kinda odd eh)
I've also had 3 different modems
I had 25 errors in 24 hours
Also the SNR seems to change over time (it used to be a stable 16 with lots of issues but no errors but this has changed)
1am ish 14-16 SNR 4am 15 8am back to 16 10am drops to 11 SNR stays 11-13 SNR up until 17:00 18 to 21:00 about 14 after that until now back to 16 |
