2 edits | reply to TigerLord Customer Service Newegg.ca does not accept phone, fax, email, or live chat orders.
I found the above interesting. wanting to use the live chat on a item not shown in .ca site. Yet in their US site. I finally did shoot off an email and got a reponse that they will get back within a day and a number of service. So it must go to US -- Southern Ontario,Canada |

| reply to dennilfloss said by dennilfloss :Just great! I used Newegg.Ca's $20 off coupon to order a heat sink and I just got my shipping notice. It says" UPS Tracking Number: ******************* (Shipped from La Puente, CA)I better not see some UPS brokerage fees and custom fees again as I was not expecting this to be shipped from the US. I thought in stock meant in Canada at their new warehouse (which does not seem to exist then). That does explain the $16 shipping fee though. I don't know why you're surprised, I posted a quote from their customer service a couple of weeks ago stating that they were shipped from the U.S. because there is no Canadian warehouse.

If they make an error, the customer can either decline the delivery or pay the fees and call NewEgg for reimbursement. I ordered some Kingston HyperX 1066 memory from NewEgg last week. It came, as promised, and with no additional fees. -- Need-based health care not greed-based health care. |

| reply to Robrr said by Robrr :Oh how you are going to be in for a surprise some day soon when you come home and find a bill from UPS for brokerage fees. I have ordered enough stuff out of the US to know that any time it is shipped UPS you will be getting a bill a few weeks later. No - I won't - as I looked at the shipping tag on each and every shipment and there was no duty or brokerage fees - the reason is because the items were sold by a "Canadian" business to someone in Canada - i.e. the "Canadian" branch of New Egg. It's up to them to pay those fees at some point in the future - as they have an importer type account and UPS doesn't do their brokerage - just their shipping. The shipments are "pre cleared" and "pre brokered". I highlighted this earlier on in this same thread somewhere I believe - I'm just too lazy to go dig it up. |

I've already bought 4 things from them in the last week, 2 shipments came from NJ, one from Minneapolis, and one from Calif. - they were delivered exactly like UPS had delivered them from across town - delivery guy shows up with his tablet, has me sign the line, hands me the box, walks away. No fees, no costs, nothing - but that's why even small items have shipping costs like $15-$16. They only discuss taxes that are applied to your order depending on where you live in Canada (due to most items being imported into Canada). UPS Standard service has brokerage fees applied after. | reply to dennilfloss said by dennilfloss :Hope so. I got UPSed up the bum big time recently when I ordered my Radeon 4870 1GB directly from Diamond to take advantage of another email coupon. After the customs and brokerage fees of $97 total, I ended up saving just $6 compared to buying it at NCIX. That's what happens with most US companies who don't care enough to cover shipping.
As for the tracking, NewEgg has warehouses all around the US but the important thing is they have a contract with UPS so it doesn't matter which warehouse they ship from. |

| reply to TigerLord In addition to a camera accessory that is coming via USPS expedited, I just ordered a vintage book I've been looking forward to owning for a long time, which cost quite a lot and is coming from Australia. I think I'll soon have a few stories to contribute about Canada Post and Customs!
As someone said, it really is hit-and-miss whether they nab you for duties and taxes, but it also greatly depends on the value. I ordered some books from the U.K. not long ago (they were not available either here or in the U.S.) and they came in two deliveries. The first was just one book, and it arrived completely free of any costs, just stuffed into my mailbox. The second was all the rest of them -- about three or four together -- and my mailperson stood there with her hand outstretched to receive the contents of my wallet. -- "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity" -- a corollary of Murphy's Law "A dog is like a child who never grows old ... always there to love and be loved" -- Aaron Katcher

| reply to FaxCap said by FaxCap :said by Wolfie00 :said by elwoodblues :Canada post is cheap for "brokerage" fees. Name one courier company that will charge you $5 for clearing your goods for you. Is that really brokerage? That said, UPS is a far, far bigger ripoff! I think the $5 may be the GST "handling fee". UPS is the worst I have used for brokerage fees. FedEx is better but not by that much. When I was buying antique pocket watches on eBay some sellers would only ship UPS. You really had to watch (pardon the pun) what you bought as the UPS brokerage fees could be 33% of the cost of the watch. If what you buy can fit in a standard envelope it will go right through Customs. People who collect stamps or old paper money laugh all the time. My buddy is a paper money collector. He paid $400 for an old (1920's) Bank of Nova Scotia $10 bill....slid right through customs. Yet I can buy a none working 100 year old pocket watch for $40 and I'll have to pay GST. If the watch price is much over that I'll get nailed for an "excise tax". The weird part is it's hit and miss. You never know what you'll be hit with. FaxCap Regardless of what it is, the cost is $5 compared to "unlimited" with the courier companies. |
