[new forum] iPhone/iPod touch Cocoa programming forum

Anyone interested in this? I do it, and I can help with all aspects of it. You need a Mac, you need to learn Objective-C and the Cocoa Touch APIs, and you get to keep 70% of what your apps make at the Apple store.

In addition, your iPhone app can easily be modified a bit and will then run on the Mac desktop or MacBook/MacBook Pro. This is a good way to tap into a large market (Mac and Windows) on the iPhone and then use that as a productive effort that lets you release it on the Mac as well.

That way, if you are porting from a Windows desktop app, your iPhone port would immediately be attractive to not only your existing Windows customers but hit the Mac market as well, and then the Mac desktop version is basically trivial. I did mine in 3 days.

I think there just might be a lot of C programmers out there who would want to get into this endeavor.

Would not this already fit in under:
»Webmasters and Developers ?

I mean, i know its not an exact fit. Maybe a programming forum in general?
I Like the idea, It just seems rather narrow when don't have a bigger true application programming forum.

BTW did apple ever fix that NDA issue where deves are not allowed to talk about their code?

That's virtually 100% Web stuff. I think it used to be named Web Monks.

Nobody knows. The Apple Forums themselves have plenty of discussion about the SDK. But the admins of the Cocoa-dev mailing list are not allowing any discussion. They admit that they don't know if that is the proper approach.

Unfortunately, if one is looking for help, the Apple Forums have mostly n00bs, so that usually doesn't get you much. The Cocoa-dev list is where the famous names hang out (the ones who write the textbooks). But they won't allow threads on the iPhone SDK.

Object. Too many useless boutique forums here already. Let 'em ramble around about this in ATM.

BBR has a forum for this the "Gadgets Forum" would fall under your request and it can adequately accommodate iPhone/iPod issues or requests.

»Gadgets

You do understand what "software development" is, correct? Your suggested forums seem to indicate otherwise.

The OP is not asking for a place to discuss the device itself, or the software already available, they are requesting a forum to discuss writing software for the device.

Even though I barely have a clue of what Johnny is proposing, I'm *signing* because his relentless posts on the matter finally convinced me that objecting to any new forum request seems pointless.

The NDA is now lifted, so that's not an issue any more.

This forum would be filled with all kinds of good stuff.

It really needs a poll to see how many people want to get started on this. Apple is so inundated with apps that it is taking one to three weeks to get one approved.

I have three in the pipeline, and one is approved so far. Made about $200 from sales in three weeks. No billing to do. No need to set up a storefront website. Apple handles all of that. All you do is get the check in your bank account once a month.
