Linksys spa doesn't work when directly connected to cable Mo

Hi,

I am having a strange problem with my Linksys Spa 2102 connectivity. (Its the old SR gizmo that I unlocked following instructions on one of the posts here) I have configured it with gizmo project and things work great when its behind my router, i.e. I can make a receive calls just fine. However, when I try to directly connect the spa2102 to my cable modem it can't seem to acquire an IP address. Also, unlike other routers, I don't seem to find a way to ask it to release/renew IP address.

I have seen lot of folks facing issue with the spa2102 behind a router, but was stumped to hit the issue other way round.
Any help/suggestions for me?

TIA

You should power cycle the modem just before connecting the SPA2102.

Use the MAC Clone Settings. Use the MAC address from your other device, the one that works OK when connected directly to your cable modem.

You shouldn't connect your SPA2102 directly to your Comcast cable modem. Doing so will limit your download speed to less than 10Mbps supported by the SPA2102, IIRC. This means the free power booster offered by Comcast will have no advantage to you.

Hi Boatman.. tried power cycling, no luck .
I will try the MAC addr cloning later today and let you folks know. Any other tips?

Mazillo, I agree with your suggestion, but I am trying to check if my modem's QoS sucks as compared to putting spa2102 directly behind the modem.

Thanks...

I know that a cable modem will generally communicate only with the first MAC address connected after power up, so that's why I mentioned the above ideas. I can't think of anything else to try. If your unit wasn't formerly locked I would have suggested a factory reset.
