4 edits | Unlocking Bell 2Wire modems....
Changed my post to summarize everything. Hope this helps those who dare to try it ;)
I would appreciate any comments on my Line Stats as I'm not too sure how to read it.
Summary
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. FLASHING CAN PERMENANTLY BRICK YOUR MODEM. I ONLY DID THIS ONCE & CAN ONLY CONFIRM THIS WORKS WITH MY MODEM.
RENTED BELL MODEMS ARE BELL PROPERTY. YOU MAY GET CHARGED FEES FOR MESSING WITH IT.
How to Unlock a BELL 2Wire Modem (ONLY Model 2701HG-G): -> Bought (Not Rented) a Bell Modem from a guy -> MDC was password protected -> Could not visit Websites. Kept getting Bell Registration Webpage -> Changing DNS settings on Computer or on Modem did not work -> See my initial thread for more info: »Got screwed with 2wire modem. What now?
Solution -> Flashed modem with a Different Firmware -> Flashed using this link: »gateway.2wire.net/tech/upgrade.html -> No password is needed to Flash -> »gateway.2wire.net can be replaced with the modem IP Address 192.168.1.254 or whatever it may be -> Firmware. See this thread (2nd Post): »www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/show···st222693 -> MDC password will be "2wire". -> NOTE: There is no longer an option for "Application Settings" in this firmware. It MAY be possible to get it back though. See the Firmware info below.
Firmware Info: -> Singtel Branded Firmware (NOT Generic 2wire)
-> Firmware is called "2wire_reinstall_voice_5.29.117.3.2sp" Version 5.29.117.3 Firmware is meant for 2700HG
-> See this site for more info and other things you can do: »bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGV.htm »bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HG···29.117.3

From what I can see it's been around for a bit. It's actually called the 2700HGV Recovery firmware.
The logo that comes up now is "SingTel". |

I didn't suspect there was so much to read about this product!!! Is it available thru my local electronics store or must i go to eBay? |

Most obvious is the logo on the web interface, if it shows the 2Wire or blank then most likely it is not ISP branded but I am uncertain whether it is always customized for the ISP. Second thing which I think would probably verify almost 100% is in the MDC under Components, on mine it shows the following:
It should not show SBC or any provider. Take a screenshot if you can. |

This sound? NOPE IT's NOT SOUND. Just want everyone reading this thread to know that.
BUT it did work for me. I'm not with Bell and I got screwed buying this modem because it kept asking for Bell Registration.
So it was an okay risk for me. |

No it's not available at any local electronics store. eBay & Craigslist are the usual spots. BUYER BEWARE though of scammers at both sites.
Just note 2 things: 1) I can only vouch for my model: Bell 2701HG-G 2) I tried this firmware & nothing else: 2wire_reinstall_voice_5.29.117.3.2sp |

I want to do this on a telus 2wire for which i don't have access to the mdc and the modem is useless at the moment since i can't configure it for pppoe (telus doesn't use pppoe). |
