| Too many problems with ViaTalk
I signed up with Viatalk last month and I've too many problems with them.
In last 5 years I've used Vonage, SunRocket and Packet8 before switching to Viatalk. I've never had any issue with any or previous VOIP provider when it comes to call quality. I switched to Viatalk after a billing issue with Packet8.
Here is the list of issues that I'm having with ViaTalk
about 4 seconds delay in voice when answering any incoming call.
When someone is calling our viatalk line, half of the time person wont hear any ring but phone will ring at our end.
When making an outgoing call, phone would disconnect randomly.
Billing Issues. When I signed up for ViaTalk i was told i would be charged $3.45 for taxes every month but I see 2 charges from viaTalk on my credit card this month. $3.45 and $1.95. I cant figure out what this 2nd charge is for.
I've tried to call ViaTalk 2 times but had to disconnect because of long waiting time.
Can anyone suggest my what can I do to resolve these issue or I'm stuck with ViaTalk for 2 years. |

| What type of an adapter are you using. Is it the innomedia that you used with sunrocket? If so, I would ditch it and go with a pap2 or the grandstream. It is a very common issue to suffer the incoming call delay with the innomedia.
Have you called viatalk for support? |

| Thanks for your reply. Yes, I'm using Innomedia Adapter from SunRocket.
Before I signed up for the service I was told by ViaTalk Sales guys that Innomedia adapeter works fine with their service.
I've tried to call viatalk twice but both time wait time was long so i disconnected. |

A PAP2 or the current Grandstream would be a good choice. IMO, that Innomedia TA was a POS out of the box (I had one with SR and tried to use it on VT as a test - had way too many issues).
BYOD is iffy at best. Unless you're a terminal wizard, I don't think you are going to make that Innomedia work right. I use a PAP2 and a older SPA1001. Both work transparently and I have excellent uptime on my two lines. -- 3500/512 5.7 GHz Motorola Canopy Wireless; FoxValley.net "Peace through superior firepower" |

I cant figure out what this 2nd charge is for. VT recently implemented "enhanced" billing where they not only bill you for their costs to provide you with the bull$hit fees, but now they also charge additional bull$hit fees that they are suppose to collect. That may be what you are seeing. Everything should be billing together as a single credit card transaction, but since you just signed up that could be a one time billing irregularity. But then again, billing irregularities are a regularity if you take a look around the forum, so who knows.
I've tried to call ViaTalk 2 times but had to disconnect because of long waiting time. <sarcasm>Viatalk never has long wait times. Obviously you are mistaken..</sarcasm> |

Have you called viatalk for support? I would not spend that extra $$$ on a PAP2, I happen to have a PAP2 with all of the problems (except billing... so far) that OP listed. Just another data point to consider. |

@qwest.net | reply to Maverick2k4 Your best option is to get a provisioned adapter directly from viatalk.
Submit a ticket if you can't get through over the phone. |

That was meant to be facetious. Others have complained about long support times, but the official company line is that the support queue lengths are always "normal" and less then 5 minutes, despite what many have actually experienced. |

| reply to Maverick2k4 I haven't tried it with Viatalk, but I have to stick up for my old Innomedia. It never failed on the Sunrocket service, it has a built in (kinda functional) router, and it doesn't have a doofy barely working "IVR" menu in place of a proper IP address default.
In fact I never had to reboot it as far as I recall. My Viatalk PAP2T has locked up several times.
Voice quality was at least as good as my current PAP2T, and the Innomedia's about the only adapter around that can pass a pulse dial... so don't get rid of 'em...

My old Sunrocket Innomedia has been very good. It never had a problem with Sunrocket. Now, I use it with Voicestick and I have never had to reboot unless I mess with it. The record of continuous running time was 63 days before I rebooted myself.
BTY, I am still using the old rotary phone and you are right. Innomedia is the only one that can do a pulse dial. |

And, you use it for Voicestick. Do you or have you used it on VT ?? I stand by the core argument of my original post. Use a TA that is standard to a system.
Once again, here's a fellow that's signed up for cheap VoIP service, is cheaping out even more by using whatever TA he had lying around and then takes out a DSLR membership so he can complain about it with a inflammatory post title.
I propose that the OP's "Too Many Problems with ViaTalk (thumbsdown)" are caused by your own BYOD TA and setup and not by ViaTalk. |

It was ViaTalk own's CSR who said that Innomedia Adapeter works fine with their system. You can't just say things which are false to sign ppl on your system and then change the statement when things doesn't work.
For a moments lets leave the argument of Adapter aside. What about the billing issue that I wrote in my first post. |

| reply to Maverick2k4 The time I had to contact VT I was given the option to hold until the next tech was available or to leave a message with a number that I could be reached at. You should put in a ticket or at least give them a chance to rectify your problem by contacting them. They "will" help you but you have to give a little to get a little too. What about the billing issue that I wrote in my first post. Yes it works, but I think what was meant was that there were alot of people who went BYOD that may not really be the best BYOD customer. Sure I could do it, but I don't want to have to mess with it.
There are times when people rant and rave about VT or any provider when BYOD and it turns out to be something on the adapter end.
