Comcast Usenet Servers Here

Well ever since the crappy transition to comcast from mediaone, i noticed all my news server wasnt working anymore. So after some searching around i found some pretty good comcast news servers that seem to work fine for me.
Heres a list:
STATE - SERVER NAME
California - news.ca.comcastwork.com
Florida - news.fl.comcastwork.com
Georgia - news.ga.comcastwork.com
Maryland - news.md.comcastwork.com
Michigan - news.mi.comcastwork.com
New Jersey - news.nj.comcastwork.com
Pennsylvania - news.pa.comcastwork.com
South Carolina - news.sc.comcastwork.com
Virginia - news.va.comcastwork.com

Hope this helps someone.

Hopefully the aliases will point somewhere else after the 28th...

Well, there's a breath of fresh air. Thanks for digging this up. Hopefully, these won't all disappear anytime soon. Wonder why ComCast has been telling everyone that they don't have any newsgroup servers? Looks like newsgroup servers to me, and it looks like they are ComCast property, too.

Judging from the naming convention (comcastwork) they are probably servers meant to be used by comcast employees. That way they can get to their porn and warez. LOL, just joking...

I would expect to see these servers disappear ( i hope not!).

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure these aren't Comcast's servers. These are the @home servers with another name or alias tacked on to allow access to @home servers from banks of IP's associated with Comcast users.

No, you are absolutely correct. We are all just hoping that if they took the time to set up aliases to the old servers, they will point them to new comcast servers eventually...

Nice sleuthing...

Unfortunately, I wouldn't expect these to stay accessible for long. These news servers are meant to be used by Comcast's Business/Work subscribers (See: »www.comcastwork.com/). This is cable-based Internet access for small businesses. Comcast probably just isn't filtering their access to residential users yet, which is usually done by IP address.

The fact that they are posted in these forums will probably expedite the filtering unfortunately. :-(

. . . or perhaps this was part of the big $ they paid @home and the news servers will eventually lose the home.com alias and IP's and belong to Comcast? (I'm just speculating)

Yeah . . . great post MiMiC

Here's another that works . . .

news.salsbr01.md.comcast.net

12/31/01 19:03:53 dns news.salsbr01.md.comcast.net
Canonical name: news1.rdc1.md.home.com
Aliases: news.salsbr01.md.comcast.net
Addresses: 24.2.2.74

and by this naming convention possibly the following should work . . .
news.*******.(insert your state here).comcast.net
with ******* being whatever is showing up in your host name when you run WINIPCFG.EXE
Note that this is a comcast.net alias, not a comcastwork address

Anybody want to give it a try?

thanks, hopefully these servers will last a while, atleast until some other cable service becomes available. With all of the non-working websites, and slower speeds, im really considering leaving comcast.
