Re: October Desktops

I saw this picture and thought there was no way that NASA would risk two shuttles out there at the same time. Well I was wrong. Here is an article I found about why there are two there. »www.wtopnews.com/?sid=593793&nid=220 Wasn't it the movie Armageddon that launched two at the same time? They know something about the election and economy we don't?

Just back from vacation.
And after 2 years dumped 64bit for desktop. Running lenny 32 bit, and hey, everything works without having to worry.
It feels strange, hold me!

Here's my minimal desktop. I need a better wallpaper though. It's Gentoo with XFCE4 running on my Dell 1525. I'm still working on my conky configuration as well.

I know that desktop wallpaper.

Well not "know" as in "know" but know why you have it covered.

Dear Friends,

Sadly, I have forgotten how to make a poll, but am wondering nonetheless, how many of the younger members here know what a choke does.

One would presume it is the command line version of electronic engine management, so to speak, but damn, I feel old, looking at the lever down to the right of the steering wheel.

For those genuine devotees of trivia, it was also on the right when the steering wheel was on the correct side of the motorcar.

Best,
M

Agreed, us 37 year olds are quite young today...

BTW, wondering how many here remember the VHS and BETA war...the telephones that actually had a **Real** ringer, 8-tracts, (And cassettes for that matter), laserdiscs (as opposed to the DVD's we have now), oh, and yeah, the laser turntable --

Tubes in TV's, radio's and amplifiers that actually had NO IC's in them. Back in those days, 80 watts was good and clean....

I finally took the time to get Compiz on my Gnome desktop so I can have all those features I like about KDE4 (the expose-like feature and the window preview thingy) without the bugginess.

You say that like there is something wrong with that???

I see nothing ugly or wrong there.

More antennas the better. My vehicle has 4 on mounted on it, and no I am not an amateur radio user. Most of the fleet has at least 3, GPS, 800MHz trunked, 4GHz PS, others have VHF & UHF as well.

I am 23 and I know what a choke is. I think most people probably would since I do, even though I never have had a car which uses a carburetor as my oldest care was a 1978 280Z and even that was fuel injected.

Re: October Desktops

I'm certainly old enough to remember cars with chokes. Since I was born and have lived in the US all my life I have never driven a car with the steering wheel on the right side ala British.

Used to be FreeBSD 7.0, but somehow it didn't feel right. Not like the 6 series anyway. When 8 comes out, I'll try it again.
