[help] Correct forum??? I think so...

This is a question regarding a cellular contract.

I'm going with AT&T this month. Yep switching over from Sprint/Nextel. Here's my question...

I already set it up in advance for my contract to end this month. (It was due this month anyway) The service ends on the 11th. Now...I'd like to keep the phone numbers I currently have. But I'm not sure if that's a possibility due to the fact that I already set this agreement up with my current subscriber.

I know once the contract is up, AT&T would contact Sprint and have them port over the numbers (correct???). But is that possible since I already set up the cancellation?

As long as you still "own" the numbers you can port them to another carrier.

Once your contract is up...they are not your numbers anymore and are gone.

Ok. Here's another question. I got off the phone with a Sprint rep and they said since my contract ends on the 25th but my billing ends on the 11th, they'd have to cancel my contract ON the 11th. Now....Can I port the numbers over to AT&T BEFORE the date of the 11th and still not be charged the ETF?

Cause he said I could port the numbers over to the new carrier before the 11th and NOT be charged an ETF because I'd still be paying for the contract until the 11th. BUT....if I choose to port the numbers anytime AFTER the 11th (keeping in mind the technical contract date is the 25th), that I'd be charged of ever many days PAST the cancellation date of the 11th.

Hope I didn't confuse anyone.

@comcast.net

You won't be cancelling the CONTRACT on the 11th, but cancelling the SERVICE. You are *required* to ride out the contract until a specific date, after which you are free to switch. Take a look at your contract to see if what the CSR says makes any sense. It sounds like they would be charging you for any phone usage past the end of a billing cycle/date.

Why can't you simply wait a week to cancel service and port out to ATT(?) Also, why would you think simply because someone on the internet told you it would be possible to circumvent what the Sprint CSR has told you regarding ETF means it must be true(?)

You don't have to wait until the billing cycle end. If the contract ends on the 25th, you can cancel on the 25th. I think there was a lawsuit about this issue with TMO. You can use it to remind Sprint that you don't have to wait until the billing cycle ends.

You don't understand I'm just sick of the damn phones and their mediocre service that it's like, the sooner the better type of thing. Besides...if what the CSR said is true and I can get outta the service BEFORE the 11th, port the numbers withOUT an ETF, and NOT be billed anything AFTER the 11th, then why should I NOT port out earlier than the 11th?

And I'm not trying to see what's "true" or not. I'm trying to get other peoples opinions on the matter. Which is basically what a forum is used for.

Ok but the billing cycle ends on the 11th. Why would I want to wait till the 25th if I'm given the option of canceling on the 11th?
