| Westell 327w can't connect?
We just got DSL here the other day (CenturyTel), but my brother can't get his to work...it's the 327w wireless router/modem combo...anyway, it shows it's sync'd on the modem, but the "status" page says it can't connect, and times out...but, when I put it in "bridged" mode, it says it's connected, gives the ul/dl speeds, but we still can't browse the net? Any ideas?
THANKS IN ADVANCE! |

| reply to Chevy454 Yeah, CenturyTel uses PPPPoE I believe...it's been a mess getting DSL...we're supposed to be too far, but they extended the coverage, but not all the folks @ CenturyTel were aware of it, so my brother got a modem & activation date, but no un/pw, finally got someone to feed him a un/pw but the phone guy said on the extended service customers he has to do a home visit to finish the install (which means he watches you insert the installation cd and follow the instructions, but don't ask him any specific questions!)...anyway, I messed with it again, and it still won't work...dsl is synced, status page says connection is up, but no action. |

| reply to Chevy454 Hi Chevy454, I'm a tech for CT in MO.
On any extended range DSL, it is supposed to require a tech visit, and a home install by the technician. If that tech didn't do it, or help you to do it, then call in to the help desk to get assistance (800-809-1410).
On the main status page does it look like the screen shot I posted? What exactly does the error say when you get the timeout on connecting? |

@centurytel.net
| Yep, it's the CT modem that arrived in the mail after ordering the service...and yes, the screen looks exactly like that *if* I put the modem/router into bridge mode, otherwise the connection times out...but in bridge mode, the connection is up, everything's sync'd, but no internet.
BUT, he has internet now...when he woke up this morning, he was getting the dreaded "red light" on the modem/router, so he reset it, took it out of bridge mode, and he had internet...no home visit or anything...? Make sense to anyone?? |

| reply to Chevy454 Usually, anytime you get a red internet light, it's either the user/password isn't correct, or the PPPoE client in the modem was trying to make a connection when the modem hadn't fully sync'd up yet.
So now he has it back in PPPoE mode, with the correct user/password put in, and everything's ok? |

| rickert: that was the wierd part, I knew it shouldn't work in bridged mode, but that was the only way it would connect? Put it back in PPPoE mode, and the connection would drop, and when it would try & reconnect it would just run & run & run and then the dreaded "time out" message would appear...but when in bridged mode, it'd connect right up. Don't ask me *why*...!
Icon: the redlight would come/go, but finally stayed off Sunday evening...now all is well, though. |

| When set as a bridge, the definition of "connect" is establish a DSL link.
When set to use PPPoE, the definition of "connect" is establish a DSL link and then establish a PPPoE link on top of that.
It would "connect" in bridge mode, because that set a simpler requirement for the modem to say it is connected. -- AT&T dsl; Westell 327w modem/router; openSuSE 11.0; firefox 3.0.3 |
