Windows XP Pro-LAN COnnection Can't Find IP Address? Other ?

I tried installing itunes 8 and had problems. Takes for ever to load icons and task bar. Also noticed lan connection icon not connecting. Repair says no IP address. When it does boot up and icons come up anti virus says no ip address for mailscan. Any ideas on what is happening and most important solutions? Not with cable modem or connection. I have wireless and one computer already connected through ethenet cable.

Help please.

Actually have two errors after booting:
Symantec Error says: "TCP/IP is not installed. Disable e mailing option or install TCP/IP"

Windows Error-"Windows Sockets initialization failed."

It also says in network connections 1394 connection is connected. The Local Area Connection tab for Broadcom Nextreme 57xx Gigabit Controller says aquiring network adress and that is where says aquiring address. Repair says renewing IP address andthere is no IP Address and Subnet mask.

Hope this helps.

You appear to be displaying signs of Winsock corruption.

Try the following to reset Winsock:

Start > Run > cmd > OK

then type

netsh winsock reset

Press "Enter"

Reboot the computer.

From this KB article:

Warning Programs that access or monitor the Internet such as antivirus, firewall or proxy clients may be negatively affected when you run the netsh winsock reset command. If you have a program that no longer functions correctly after you use this resolution, reinstall the program to restore functionality.

You could try using the utility "Winsock XP Fix":

Winsock XP Fix is no longer in development and may be outdated.

Create a System Restore Point beforehand.

system restore does not look like it is working. Leave that one for last resort.

OK.

Can you access the internet in "Safe Mode with Networking"?
