Let's face it... Outside of small towns in the prairies and northern Ontario, all of Canada is pretty much gay friendly... Don't forget we're one of the few nations in the world who has legalized gay marriage...

I really don't see the point in trying to start a pissing contest about which major city is the most gay friendly. Pretty much any major Canadian city with a sizable gay community qualifies as much as any other...

Then again one has to wonder if Harper would try to raise this issue back from the dead if he were to win a majority in this election???
That's a great answer. It wasn't supposed to be a pissing contest.

What about the east coast? Its it as accepting as the rest?

@look.ca

Again, I haven't been to the east coast since the 80's, but I'd be willing to assume that Moncton and Fredericton and Halifax would have statistically significant gay communities as much as the next town.

Chances are you'll find gay bashers in every community as well, but my experience has been that even small towners aren't as openly anti-gay as they might have been 20 years ago.

Let's face it. The odd white supremacist or anti-whatever hate crime tends to make national headlines in this country. While even those are few and far between, I honestly can't remember any journalistic coverage whatsoever concerning a gay bashing incident in the past 15 years...

My great uncle was gay and owned a gay bar in St. John's, Nfld and never had any issues. I also worked at an independent bookstore in St. John's when I was ~18 and we had a pretty robust gay/lesbian section and a fairly large clientele for the section. From my experiences I would say that St. John's was more "gay friendly" then the suburbs of the GTA albeit I've never seen any particular anti-gay sentiment in the GTA 'burbs.

Can you expand on the robust gay/lesbian section, and specifically why the word robust aroused your vocabulary acumen?

Heh, that was quite a while ago so I have no memory of what was there but it was a fair sized section in the store. As for the use of the word robust...it's just a good word!
