|  Help - how to downgrade this laptop to WinXP?
What is the proper and best procedure to downgrade this Vista HP Pavilion Notebook ( »www.samsclub.com/shopping/naviga···m=403080 ) to Win XP Pro (64 Bit)
(I obtained "Windows xp x64 (64-bits) with sp2 (service pack 2) and windows media player 11")
and do you think there could be any driver issues or etc?
or any other issues?
any tools etc... to simplify the process?

1 edit | Buy a copy & load it. As for going with XP 64bit, are you going to specically running programs written in 64bit programming, or mostly 32bit? If just running 32 bit programs, stay with regular vanilla XP Pro 32bit. Otherwise, Vista will fit all of your needs, unless you have applications that the writers no longer have updated, and stopped after 2k came out.
To add, XP will see pretty much everything on that laptop hardware wise.

These are the same ones that had the same thoughts for XP. I remember when 2k came out, it was the biggest nightmare, until XP was released, which corrected those sofware issues, then came Vista, which has zero problems, with the exception as mentioned above, which is caused by writers that no longer support their product. |

Why not work on the issues your having first? Maybe remove half the sh*t that HP puts on their computers causing most of the performance issues. Could try pc decrapifier first. As for driver issues if you downgrade yes I do think your going to have issues since xp 64 bit is not supported nearly as well as vista 64 bit. |

Majority of the so called "crap" is actually shortcuts. I just did a machine a month ago, and only had to remove 3 programs "Norton, HP PC Tools, and Sling media's viewing software". |

Thats not too bad then glad they've cut it down. I worked on one not too long ago and it was absolutely ridiculous the amount of software they had running on startup, all of it worthless. |

In the very least, the OP should at least have a copy if his/her wireless or wired NIC drivers just in case. There's always that slim chance of possibility in my experience. From there, THEN it should be able to pick up the rest of the drivers through the driver cache or windows update and if XP then can't find them, can grab them online manually.

I just had several people tell me that Norton is NEVER installed on an HP computer when you get it. They say only the Installer is there and you just delete the installer. But you are saying Norton IS installed? I won't buy a computer that comes with Norton installed. I don't want one that has McAfee installed either but it is the lesser of the two evils. I was looking at HP computers and they all come with Norton and no option to get the computer with NO AV.
So, was Norton fully installed? I'll stop thinking about HP computers if I cannot order one with NO AV or, at the very least, with no Norton. I don't understand the OEMS. They insist on inflicting the TWO WORST AV on users plus the MOST DIFFICULT to fully remove. It is a crime.

I've had these guys in GRC NGs insist Norton is not fully installed ...that is their experience ...yours is that it IS fully installed for a 60 day trial and when I configured this HP machine included was the NIS for 15 months that could not be declined.
Gee, I guess I will need to call HP and ask. I configured the machine on their home users site. I'm sure on their Business site a machine can be had with no AV included but I didn't see the machines I'd want on their Business site...not like Dell which includes the better consumer machines on their Small Business site.

I have an HP DV9260US laptop and XP SP2 or even SP3 does not have all the drivers for it. Here is the HP driver site for the OP's laptop and the XP drivers are sparse.

I downgraded my one lappy from Vista to XP Pro...really diidn't notice any performance increase. Though I am sure it's because this machine of mine really doesn't have a lot of driver support for XP. You might be better off sticking with Vista, it will get better, just give it some time.
