Uverse Upload Speed

I currently pay for 15/2 with TW in San Diego, CA.

My TW speeds have been rock solid, about 14.8/1.9 on speedtest.net and I have only had one outage in four months.

But the Uverse people came by yesterday to tell me that my apartment is getting the service. When they told me their best service was 10/1.5, I said thanks but no thanks.

The AT&T girl came back last night to tell me that she could get me 18m upload for $10 more per month. Has anyone heard anything like this from the Uverse people before, or is she just straight lying to me? Because 18m up would be amazing for Xbox Live and torrents.

There were rumors that there will be an 18mb DOWNstream package coming out soon. Apparently they aren't rumors anymore... Upstream is still very limited; the RG can sync at 60+ mbps downstream but will never (at this point, anyway) sync at more than 2048 kbps upstream.

Sorry.

It can sync at higher then 2megs with pair bonding. Currently that sales person lied to you as stated. The max upload is 1.5 and will be for a bit. When/if pair bonding does come out I don't see them making it more then 2megs for upload.

Fascinating. They ought to just upgrade Max ($20 more for 4mbps seems steep), but I think I'd still probably jump on this if it were available.

Why do you think the RG is limited to 2048 up? The RG doesn't report max upload. People who have had techs look at their line have posted results from techs showing max upstreams of greater than 3mbps.

From line stats ive seen the general average for the max upload seems to hover around 5 to 6mbps depending on line conditions.

You're right, I was comparing the actual upload sync speed (2048) to the reported maximum downstream sync (60+.) That's not a fair or logical comparison.

So why do other ISP's with ADSL2 have higher up speeds than AT&T?

ADSL2 (and ADSL2+) does not have a higher upstream rate than 1.5Mbps. Qwest ADSL2+, for example, tops out at 896kbps upstream.

Currently my 1.5/384 is more like 1/256 by cable standard
With cable you are getting every bit of your advertised speed with DSL you're only get 80-85 of advertised speed
This pppoe waste about 15-20 percent of the bandwidth which is horrible IMHO...
I notice on my friend's cable i can max out the upload and can still download at decent speed!
What gives? Do cable have an extra upload boost to speed your download if all your upload is maxed?

actually its not the pppoe its the atm layer that causes the missing bandwidth.
