[NV] USENET Service down

No Usenet service since 5:AM Friday - Oct 17-2008

Service has been on and off since early August, some days headers no message body, other day no headers, and other times no posting capability... Today there is no connection...

Has the Usenet service died, or is something happening that is not posted on the support page of Cox Communications? Did the news address change?

Try news.east.cox.net if news.west.cox.net isn't working for you.

When the usenet slows to a crawl, I will try the other one, but understand there is no east, central or west anylonger. These familiar addresses get changed to what ever Cox assigns...

I understand there is a a different newsgroup address, one of nine to fifteen different addresses that can be specified, but nothing official except east, and west...

I do Change the the address from east to west when this happens along with resetting the modem, restarting the computer and making a cup of tea or soup so I do not become angrier.

If you take the time to pick up the phone to be left on ignore while your anger simmers, to a boiling point and then scream and yell at a level one tech, that is there to screen new computer users question, it solves nothing.

But this Usenet problem is approaching a 100 days since I started having these problems... How much longer it this going to be a problem:

Todays notice:
Unable to connect.
The following error occurred:
502 Permission Denied - Server authorization temporarily stalled try again (Tornado V1.0.9.482)

Unable to connect.

Same notice connected directly...

Direct connection, or through my router there is not a bit of difference except the nat protection of the router: connection, service or speed, is the same or similar in the same time frames. I have two routers and have changed them while on the phone with cox support.

But I have little understanding why the Usenet connection would be different than other on-line services offered by Cox direct or through the net safe router. If the www service was as bad as the Usenet service has been for me and my neighbors the last 90 days cox subscribers would have revolted, and would be leaving Cox in droves if they were not in a monopolistic situation...

The only difference in a direct connection it is difficult to use a Linux operating system with the Cox phone support... Cox Communications does not have the skills nor do I have the ability to be helpful to a very good Linux specialist than can provide support a non-microsoft operating system on PC hardware.

I am only a User that has found 64-bit Linux works well and seldom crashes. I have an anti-virus and get virus notifications in e-mail from windows users but they are captured immediately.

Another reason for 64-bit; this computer does not fills up with bad 64-bit flash and Java infections because there is no 64-bit Flash and Java for Microsoft or Linux computers...

Permission denied sounds like you're either trying to connection for a non-Cox Internet connection or your newsreader is sending a user/pass and shouldn't be. Be sure you are not set to use any authentication when trying to connect.

I am in Las Vegas, NV. I can connect to the NNTP servers but am limited to 2 concurrent connections.

Has COX throttled down again from 4 to 2?

The connection limit is still 4. If you have a router it may be worth trying to bypass it to see if you can get 4 connections that way.
