My DVR regularly fails to record at night

Have the following Comcast DVR:

Motorola DCT6208/1000
S/W 74.54 - 4003
F/W 16.35

I have a series recording set to grab all episodes of "Becker". These are aired at various times on both WGN and USA networks (I think) - typically at 4:30pm, 12:30am, and 6:00am.

The 4:30pm episode always records just fine.

The 12:30am and 6:00am episodes fail about 3/4ths of the time. They start to record, but I'm left with a 1 minute recording with the message that the recording was interrupted. This has been going on for about two months. I let it go thinking maybe there was nighttime maintenance going on, but there's never been any notice of this and it hasn't stopped.

I cannot find anything on my end that interrupts the recording. No one is up watching TV when the failures occur. I have plenty of space on my HDD. I've tried leaving the DVR powered on and also power off but that doesn't seem to matter.

ALSO, other things record just fine, even at night. I've never had any other recording failure like this.

Any thoughts on what the problem is and how to fix it?

Thanks!

@irs.gov

I've noticed a similar problem on my 6412: If I set up a Series Recording to record "All Channels," it won't record properly. It will only record one of the channels.

For instance, College Football Live is shown on both ESPN and ESPN2. Some days, it's on ESPN2 but it's not on ESPN. So I want it to record ALL Channels, so I don't have to worry about "which channel is it on today?" But it will only record ESPN for some reason.

So what I did, as a work-around, was set up 2 separate Series Recordings: One for CFB Live on ESPN, and one for CFB Live on ESPN2. The DVR has no problems recording all episodes at all times on the channels... but for some reason it just doesn't like the "record on all channels" option.

Try that "fix" and see if it works. Good luck...

I will look at this, but it doesn't really sound like the problem I'm having. My recordings actually start (no matter the channel) but get stopped almost immeadiately - and this only occurs in the middle of the night. During the day either channel will record just fine. Does this match the problem you had?

No, that doesn't really match the problem I had. My recordings never even started. But I figured it would be worth a shot. Good luck!

A 6208???? I thought Comcast got rid of those ancient single-tuner DVR's. It may or may not fix the problem, but you should consider upgrading to a newer DVR. Most are a bit faster and better supported.
