| Skype through wireless router
Hi
I work in the Middle East and Skype is blocked, however by using JonDo I can make Skype calls through my PC. For more convenience I bought a Belkin WiFi Skype phone thinking I could connect through the same wireless SMC broadband router as my PC does, but it will not connect to Skype. I have checked the Skype/JonDo proxy settings on the PC and copied them exactly on the phone but still no luck. I am making the assumption (Im a newbie at this sort of thing)that the PC is logged on to JonDo so somehow I need to get JonDo to "recognise" the WiFi phone. Is this possible? or has anybody a better idea how I can get past this blocking problem? Many thanks in advance. |

| reply to Major Prat No you Can't because JonDoe uses a client software that the the skype phone can't handle. Are you American? Do you have a house in America or other Location? You could use the SMC router VPN settings to connect to a server outside the middle east such as America. Also, If you can buy a Linksys Wrt54g then you could run JonDoe from the router using the DD-wrt firmware. this would allow you to use both your phone and computer through Jon Doe. |

| reply to Major Prat The other thing you could do If your computer has a Wireless Card you can send the Skypephone data through the Computer and it's proxy information. You would have to connect the computer through ethernet to the router then use the Wifi Connection in the Computer to access the Skype phone. |

Again many thanks for taking the time to reply |

| reply to adffe5634654 Can you please point me in the right direction with your reply....I hard wired my pc to the SMC wireless router and re-configured it to connect to the internet (took a while but I managed it) Now however the IP address I used to get into my SMC admin site doesnt work anymore so I cant change any of the Routers settings. Anyway I can connect to the internet and the wireless aspect of the router is now off, but Im not sure how to get my belkin WiFi phone to connect direct with my PC. The phone doesnt find any available networks when searching, so how do I get it to find my Dlink WiFi card which is installed in my PC (running on Vista)?

| reply to Major Prat You need to go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center Setup Connection Select "Ad Hoc" password etc Use WPA2 (Wep is Insecure)
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections Wireless connection\Sharing
"Allow others to use the internet" |

| Again thanks for the reply....I will try the setting you gave me straight after I dig myself out of the hole im in! In an attempt to disconnect the wireless function of my SMC wireless router, I went into the SMC admin web site, accessed the "wireless" section and clicked on the "disable" button option (I cant remember the full option details..sorry) I then found I couldnt access the SMC admin web site anymore so tried to return the router to the factory setting by following the reset procedure. After that I couldnt access the internet at all....so I connected a spare basic ADSL SMC modem which connected to the internet without a problem but still will not access the SMC admin site, in fact when I try to the system often locks up and displays the "explorer has stopped working" message. All other web sites work fine. Cant think what I did that was so disasterous.....any help would be appreciated. |

| reply to Major Prat The smc page is local to the router and not "internet". You may have changed the ip address of the router from it's default. Also, You wiped the Adsl settings when you did a factory reset. You need to find the manual for the "SMC router" then lookup the setting for ADSl. |

| reply to Major Prat Just to save anybody wasting their time...I have resolved the issue by deleting the broadband connection, resetting the router to the factory spec and then I managed to get into the SMC admin site. |
