Re: The power of Xohm

Is there a way to set the home modem to bridge mode?

Service has been working great on a network (northern burbs of D/FW) that doesn't officially exist. My only "complaint" (I can't really complain, since I'm not supported or launched) is that every day at 7-7:30pm the service dies for 20-60 minutes. Beyond that, life is great. I get ~2.2mbps uploads, ~4.3mbps downloads and much lower latency than my apartment complex's vastly over-sold connection.

It goes out a 6pm on the dot here in Chicago, at least in Burr Ridge.

I am amazed right now, This hasn't worked at ALL here at my house and out driving around my area I could get it connected for a minute or two and it was pulling 1000kb/s down and like 100kb/s up, very pitiful. Anyways, I left the card in laptop when I got home and it was connected!

This is with one ring on the signal strength meter!!

Yeah!! That has happened to me to.. The highest I got was 4.7 down and now it's around 2mb down and remember I'm out of coverage by a 1/2 mile.

Mine modem's not activated, and it's working. I can get on any website right now... nothing's blocked and it doesn't redirect to xohm. I'm in chicago.. anyone else seeing this?

How comes you show your using comcast? Run it with the modem and post..

parkr7

@comcast.net
Alright one sec lemme get connected with the laptop again

@spcsdns.net
Connected to xohm without activating, not on comcast this time,

parkr7

@comcast.net
I'm not sure why it still says comcast, let me clear cookies and try reposting hold on.

parkr7

@spcsdns.net
Ok cleared cookies this time, shouldn't say comcast now.

@spcsdns.net
If this says comcast then I have no idea how to make it not say that, I'm definitely on xohm right now.

I just ordered the xohm Modem and xohm USB adapter and will probably take the Pick 2 plan if it works. I live in Schaumburg, but work in Aurora. My GF lives in Montgomery, but I don't expect it to work out there.

Ok, Aurora, IL (60504) near Eola and Liberty St. works with full signal strength! Woohoo! My downloads fluctuate from 550kbps down to around 45kbps. My highest upload has been about 1.1mbps.

I will try Oswego, IL tonight (near Oswego East HS) and Montgomery, IL in the Lakewood Creek West subdivision near Prescott and 30.

I signed up for "Pick 2" and could only get one device to activate. I see a way to add and remove devices, but the website is apparently broken as you cannot currently add or remove anything. Support has opened a ticket and is looking in to the problem and will attempt to activate the USB and Zyxel modem for me within 24 hours.

Sounds like your about a mile or so outside expected coverage in Aurora based on speeds... That's weird your having problems with My.xohm.com and adding the other device.. I bet speeds improve over the next week or your getting a strong enough signal.. I have one bar for signal in my area and being a 1/2 mile out I get some good speeds.. Avg. is 2.5 to 3 dl and 1 mb ul..

Well, when I'm in Aurora, there is a Sprint/Nextel tower 1,600 feet away (measured via Google Earth measurement tool) near Eola and Liberty St. My signal strength is full according to the xohm Modem assistant and my transmit power is currently 7 dBm.

I noticed the nearest Sprint tower in Schaumburg is 2,300 ft. away from my house. I'm hoping WiMax equipment exists there, but I won't know until late tonight or tomorrow.

parkr7

@comcast.net
How are you finding the tours on google earth?
