NBA TV has been available for years, lobozooma. Verizon has been working on getting NBA TV and NBA League Pass for some time now. And the NBA season is currently in progress.
There won't be anything of significance on MLB Network before spring training. |

| reply to afiggatt said by afiggatt : Look back several posts in this thread. Verizon will add the HD channel, hopefully in January. Until the MLB HD channel is close to being added, we won't know more than that. Any reason why the NBA Channel has a space all set aside is the SD and HD area, looking ready to go while the MLB channel, which is actually live and available in HD, is not being added, at least showing? Very annoying. |

In Buffalo our local cable company has been running Canadian programming for years. It would be interesting to see when Verizon catches up here.

| reply to GeekGirl1 GeekGirl1, I agree with you completely. It is good to see and hear things that aren't so USA-centric all the time. That's one of the good things that comes with the availability of global programming.
I've really enjoyed watching Hockey Night In Canada - their game coverage and analysis is a real treat. Also, someone must have been listening to us as the NHL Network logo is now transparent!
And as far as today's game went, USA played very well but the opposing goalie was really on a hot streak and was making incredible saves. |

1 edit | reply to nascar said by nascar :Well... Needless to say I'm a bit disappointed. I was also disappointed in the Canadian fans that clearly routed for any of the opposing teams that the USA played. Clearly changed my opinion of Canada. I missed the USA game today , but one of the nice things about watching programming not originating in the US is that you get a real perspective of how the world views the USA.
[OT]For example, US news programs tend to filter out anti-US comments, or presents things from a US perspective. Compare the BBC news (on BBC America) with the US networks and you'll see the same news reported from the British perspective. I like the diversity of opinions. IMO, the more the merrier and hopefully you can figure out what really happened.[/OT]
Pay attention to the comments made during the period breaks in Hockey Night In Canada. You might hear some resentment to the USA. It's understandable since a lot of the Canadian home-grown players decide to leave their country for better pastures in the USA. It hasn't been the same since The Move (Gretzky, Messier left the Oilers).
OTOH, Hockey Night In Canada has just about the best game coverage I've seen in a long time. Love Don Cherry. |

Rumor has it NHL Network will carry some WJHC games over the holidays. Should be great to see some future prospects and it's in Canada this year so we might see it in HD! From the NY Times Dec 6, 2008: "Two underexposed United States national teams, the mens national junior squad and the womens national side, will be the beneficiaries of a deal announced last week between USA Hockey and the NHL Network.
For the next three seasons, the NHL Network will provide live high-definition TV coverage of all the United States junior teams games, as well as all medal-round games at the under-20 world junior championship, the best hockey tournament no one in the United States watches.
The NHL Network will also televise four live games of the touring United States womens team in 2009 and early 2010 as it prepares for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver."The US teams four scheduled games are: Fri, Dec 26 - 3:30 pm vs. Germany Sun, Dec 28 - 7:30 pm vs. Czech Republic Tue, Dec 30 - 7:30 pm vs. Kazakhstan Wed, Dec 31 - 7:30 pm vs. Canada Medal round: Quarterfinals: Fri, Jan 2 - 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Semifinals: Sat, Jan 3 - 3:30 and 7:30 pm. Bronze Medal game: Mon, Jan 5 - 3:30 pm. Gold Medal game: Mon, Jan 5 - 7:30 pm. My only disappointment is that I would have liked to see some of the non-USA matches in group play. The NHL Network is great and I feel a must have for any hockey fan. |

1 edit | reply to icemannyr1 Just wanted to note, I was at house with Cablevision and the already have channel space for MLB Network HD. I don't know if the channel is active or just a place holder since the box was SD. I since the channel goes live at 6pm on January 1st I'm wondering if or when FiOS will add it? |

It will be interesting to see where the US measures up against Canada, they laid a beating on Kahzakstan (sp) 15-0. I think the US plays them (KAZ)on Tuesday. |

| reply to hobgoblin Any of the games that I saw this past weekend were in HD. I did see some motion artifacts but that may have been coming from the Canadian broadcast that was simulcast on NHL, I don't remember if it was the US game. They both had different headers/score bars. |
