new Deliberant units

Who out there is using the new Deliberant units? Are you having any problems with them?

I have one in service for a few weeks now and am loving it. I haven't had any problems at all out of them. The interface is a bit slow but as mentioned here it should be updated soon as well as once you do one config you can use expert mode and copy and paste with only a few options changed.

Sorry to hijack the thread but;

It says the Deliberant AP Solo supports 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g

In the 2.4GHz band, does that mean that normal wireless adapters could pick the AP up; or is that just the protocol used and it has the limitations of each (g/a 54Mbps and b 11Mbps)

I bought one to try it out, I thought the interface sucked, and was dog slow, but it was atheros based, and I have a thing for atheros. I loaded it with dd-wrt and hung it at a customer prem.. Seems OK so far but its not even been a week.

Dog slow is being kind.

I tried to get 2 of the 15's to link in a clear LOS 5 mile link and it kept dropping the connection. Matt had me turn down the power, said it was too much power for that distance and I should use the default 20dB.

I turned down the power and they wouldn't even connect.
I think the 500mW was a big mistake. There isn't enough receive strength to support that much power.

I sent them back to DoubleRadius.

You should have zero problem making that link with actual clear LOS at 2.4.. that doesn't make any sence for it not too.

And what does "There isn't enough receive strength to support that much power." that mean exactly.. ?? They have better receivers then they ever have had.

The specs say there better but our test did not.

When connected to our AP running at 36dB EIRP we had to turn down the TX of the Delib unit to 24dB to match the signal strength the Delib unit reported. We were able to go out further at a higher setting but the Delib unit would not hold a link. The 12dB unit may be better matched but I will not spew 500mW off of a 12dB antenna. Their web site says "a screaming 500 mW output power". Screaming is right but I don't need radios that scream but can't listen.

I have been requesting RF plots on their forum for the 12db antenna for nearly a year and still have not received one nor do they put it in their specs.

You can set the AP Solo to run in either 802.11a mode, mixed b/g, g only or b only. So if your laptop adapter can pick up b/g/a, then yes it will be able to connect to it.

Our flex based CPE GUI was launched with the v5.24 firware released last week. The interface is much faster now

To see an example of the new web interface, here's a clip:

This is navigating through an actual radio. As you can see, it's quite a bit faster.

Inssomniak, how was dd-wrt on this unit? Was it way faster then the stock GUI?

bito, with the new GUI how do you save and reload settings?

Does anyone have more than 10 to 20 units in the field? I hear of a lot of people testing them but no one using them. Is there a reason for that?

I don't have more in the field because I haven't done many installs since I ordered them. With the new gui you make all your changes on all pages and then click "Save" in the top right.

What is "Device License" ? If the purchase price includes a lifetime license for operation of the unit then why put it in the GUI ?

Deliberant products now use the wilibox software, which by itself requires a license. However, all Deliberant devices come pre-loaded with software and license, so Deliberant customers should never have to worry about licensing.

Thank you. I have plans to order a pair for an old link, and was worried about that.

I was hoping to hear that others were using them with some success. I have about 20 units with about half of them in the field and I'm having nothing but problems with them to the point that I don't think I will even install the rest of them. The new firmware is about as buggy as the first one. I could go on and on but in my opinion when Deliberant switch to Wiligear things turned to crap and this is coming from someone who has about 80% Deliberant network and loved their product until now.

Try a unit with dd-wrt firmware. Load it with the "fonera" version. dd-wrt didnt speed up the interface at all, but it added lots of features. I never used the stock or new firmware in the field, just dd-wrt. Seems OK, but this one unit I have up is only 2 kilometers out LOS.

How hard is it to loaded dd-wrt on the unit? I tried open-wrt on something a long time ago and had problems getting it to load. How much extra does dd-wrt cost? Is it buggy or solid?

DD-wrt its kind of a pain, you use the bootloader to load it in, then its OK. Follow the instructions for loading it onto a wili-500 board, but use the fonera firmware.

So far its solid, and it doesnt cost anything as long as you use the consumer firmware.
