It sounds like a good deal for someone who makes a lot of calls. What do most vosps charge for unlimited US - $20 or so? That's $240/year, the price of the ooma service, which is good as long as the company is in business.
That's exactly how I saw it, which is why I purchased it. As long as I get at least one year out of the service, I'm fine. Honestly, I really want to see them survive.

How long they survive totally depends on how long they give out "free" service. i.e. if they limit it to a couple of years at $250 they should be fine financially. If they make it longer than that then I think it is unlikely.

Another thing is whether they limit their "unlimited" service or not... since they advertise the device as "free unlimited for life" I would think they don't limit it which will dent their financials quite a bit.

There is a free and a premier plan. The free plan gives unlimited calling, but doesn't include all the features of the premier plan. I'm enrolled in the premier plan for $99 per year, which includes a free second line and number port.

I agree that unlimited sounds too good to be true for "lifetime service"

However, Ooma cuts it's cost by using P2P call termination, that will save them $$.

So in my opinion, if they have enough $$ to keep their servers alive, Ooma will survive for quite some time (at least 2 more years)

As far as privacy issues go, I am not making million dollar business calls on my phone lines anyway, so I should be okay. -I am also running true VOIP (no landline version), so I am not too worried about misuse of lines from other P2P being traced back to me.
