i dont know if it's still called local loop.. but if i want a connect from a datacenter to my office building, what do i do? contact ATT (they're the phone carrier) ?
i want to bring some high speed symmetrical connections into the building and offer to tenants..

I know that ATT changes about $400/m (undiscouted) for the local loop of a T1 when it includes service (PRI or data/internet). I think I'm paying around $280/m each for just the loop on my PRI line and data line.
At my last job they had 2-3 T1 lines running between remote sites (schools) to the district office and had 3 fractional T3s running from there to the county main office. I could never find out how much they were paying for any of that, but someone told me that one of the fractional T3 lines was 50x more than 3 T1s.
Site to site might be considered 2 loops: one from you to the CO and another from the CO to the data center. Call ATT, you should be able to get an answer from them over the phone. |

I think your best bet is your local cable company whoever that is (charter, time warner, cox?). They normally have the best price per mb for internet and p2p circuits. Ive gotten a 15/15mb fiber circuit for $750 before.
Do you have a datacenter in mind? Your idea would also work, but you would be paying someone (Att or cable company) for a p2p circuit to a data center, then pay the data center for transit/bandwidth on top of that, so the cost may be a little higher.
You can go direct with att, but the loop cost alone on a ds3 can be around ~$2000.
You could also check into clecs in your area (not sure if xo is there, or whoever else). Ive gotten a quote for a full 45mb ds3 with internet for $1945. |

Tell them your street address and the first 6 digits of your local phone number. tell them what internet bandwidth you want. tell them your expected price point or budget, so they'll know if they are wasting your time. they will take it from there. |

| reply to geonap well, i've gotten p2p pricing from charter, they want 4k/month.
cogent got me 200mbit layer 2 with their p2p to me for 4100/month..
only thing is that, i dont really want cogent and i want p2p to go to me, so i could use as much as bandwidth needed between my servers (cause i want to store data, off site back up at high speeds) and also want to use a mixture of providers.
i'm going to use one wilshire.
so the ultimate goal is just to get point to point from burbank to one wilshire.
i will go to the forum and see if anyone will help with pricing! thanks
thanks |
