Blatantly stupid people.

Really? Cleaning cobwebs with a blowtorch? Natural selection should have taken care of this brainiac.

SARGENT, Ga. -- A Coweta County man who set his house on fire while cleaning out cobwebs with a blowtorch won't be charged, Fire Chief Bill Haynes told CBS 46 Thursday afternoon.

Authorities said Galen Winchell set fire to his home on Smith Road in Sargent around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday as he cleaned cobwebs from exterior eaves with a blowtorch. Winchell noticed the blaze when he saw smoke pouring from the attic.

Haynes said the fire was contained to one part of the house, because the home had several layers of roofing. But haynes said the entire home suffered at least some smoke and water damage.

No one was hurt.

This is why my hair dryer has a tag on it that says not to use it IN the shower and plastic bags tell you not to put it over your head. I often wonder how those people keep jobs and pay their bills on time.

I must be doing it wrong then. I spray it onto kleenex and apply the kleenex to my eyes. That seems to work pretty well.

So even if you don't spray it directly onto your skin, Windex can still keep the wind out of your eyes? That's good to know.

This all goes against natural selection. If left to there own devices these people would be out of the gene pool.

Hey, I lived in Ozark for 2.5 years

And you're right, they become management and hire only those who are as stupid as they are

And for those too stupid to read, it's also the reason your hair dryer most likely has a GFCI device right on the plug. To protect those who won't let a little tag get in their way of self-elimination.

I once heard a comedian in his routine talk about buying a superman cape as part of a costume. He said it had a tag sewn in that said "Warning: this article will not allow wearer to fly". He responded by saying he figured anyone stupid enough to think a cape would make them fly wouldn't let a little paper tag stop them from trying.

When my daughter was 5 and noticed this on the hairdryer, she asked me how stupid people were. I told her to start looking at warnings, each one meant at least one person was injured or killed by the thing with the warning label. This would be funny if it weren't for all the now deceased stupid people.

You can aim the blowtorch into the soffit vents and get any spiders that are hiding in there. You just can't do that with an ordinary duster.

Or for that matter a stick from the yard? That's the least expensive option (free). Would make sense to me anyway.... Guess he wasn't playing with a full deck lol.

Hmm, that's interesting. I was always under the impression that cobwebs were generally NOT flammable. Not that Ive used a blow torch to clean them out, but for one reason or another I remember lighting one on fire around a camp fire one. It just sorta shriveled and powdered and then disappeared. There is not much there to burn due to their light nature so it seems hard they would burn long enough to light a house on fire.

The house went on fire from the blowtorch heating up the exterior of the house.... Not from a cobweb catching fire... If you're not careful, a blowtorch can set your house on fire if you use it incorrectly when welding a pipe joint together in a wall for example..

Okay, that makes sense. Then yes, a Darwin Award may be in order. I guess using a blow torch to clear cob webs is sort of like taking an elephant gun mouse hunting... it works but just is way too much

Im sure he caught something else on fire while clearing the webs. Maybe through a vent into the attic or something

Nah, it wasn't the blowtorch that set the fire it was a retaliation by the garden spiders rising up to avenge their toasted eaves brothers. This is why we need to put caps on our interwebs and ban porn: to prevent terrorism and to save the children.

Sounds like the guy could be married to a woman we had at work. Who I've seen run out of room on the mouse pad ,using a rollerball mouse, decide the only way to get the pointer to the right spot on the screen is to move the crt monitor. Needless to say I was stunned.

Yup. They're all over out there. Guy in my area was killed (in front of his family no less) when he attempted to "salvage" distribution power lines that were currently in use.

Good thing is, at least he can't procreate anymore and perhaps his wife and kids won't be as stupid as he is in the future. . .

Sorry if that sounds heartless but damn I'm tired of dealing with the problems caused by incredibly stupid people.
