Game sound transmitting through mic

I have a Creative Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS sound card and Fatal1ty gaming headphones. Vista 64 and Ventrilo.

When playing WoW (and presumably any other game), even though my speakers are off, game sounds still transmit over Vent to other people when I key my mic. I have no idea why this is happening or how to correct it. The only thing I can do is turn the master game volume down or off in WoW audio settings.

Can anyone please offer up suggestions on what I should look at?

Thanks!

EDIT: spelling

I had the EXACT same issue on Second Life..on both an XP and a VISTA box. I determined through trial and elimination it was the Creative Cards. They are not even CLOSE to what they once were..matter of fact they are pure shit now. I went back to onboard sound on both PCs and the re xmit stopped completely...Creative aint what it used to be...

Oh man, so my $250 sound card is "worth less" than my built in onboard sound?!

It *could* just be a drivers issue. I personally decided after the dismal Vista support offered and all the excuses over at the Creative forums, plus the re xmit issue I aint doing creatives anymore

I doubt you'd notice any audio quality differences between the creative card and the onboard to boot. Creative just isn't worth it anymore - Their driver support is horrid.

My friend has this problem with his onboard, he had to mute one of the recording volumes, I think it was called direct stereo or something.

Open the Volume Control in the Taskbar. Under Play Control, make sure that the microphone is checked as muted. That should solve the problem.

Make sure that "What U Hear" is not selected as your recording source for the microphone. Creative cards have the ability to redirect what comes out of your speakers right to the microphone for easy recording. It could be that this option is selected.

Thanks. I believe this may be my problem. Here is what I did. I'll test it later this evening.

Right-click on your little speaker icon, select "Recording Devices", select "Microphone", then click "Set Default".
